Unhappy Pajero Motor Blown Worth Anything

My 96 Pajero 3.5 V6 has blown the motor. The cost to repair is not worth it. The repair is worth more than the value of the vehicle. What to do. Lexus conversions can be done for around R50K. My other option is to flog it without an engine. Not sure what this is worth though and not sure if there is a demand for something lime this. It would be a shame to scrap a legend like this, especially in the condition it is in for its age. Any advice or buyers?

Fit an "import" motor if they are available?

EDIT: I see Engines for Africa have a listing on their site.

There are plenty of importers. Should be around R20k for a good one.

Import or scrapyard for another motor. Fit like for like. Use for many more years.
or sell for very cheaply like R20k.

Thanks for the feedback. Most of the importers recommend the Lexus motors. They range from R15K - R23K. Then it costs around R12 K to install it. Extras will still be new radiators and engine control system. Not sure if it is worth it on such an old vehicle.

I am thinking that selling it would be the better option. A real 4x4 enthusiast may want something like that. Not sure where to sell it though. Maybe on the second hand websites. I will see if there are any options on this site. Sad to see a classic vehicle like this wasted because of the engine though.

    What "blew" on the engine?

What would you be asking for it "as-is"?

My 1996 3.5 V6 will be up for sale. Might be worth considering using it for a transplant. Needs major TLC in terms of cosmetics but generally pretty solid

Most Lexus conversions end up being around R50k. Take our word for it.

And I don't believe a decent importer will recommend a Lexus.

But we've given advice, what you do with it is your problem.

Mine is cosmetically sound inside and out. Just needs a motor. I will consider your offer. I may have found a motor with 176000km on it. What is your mileage?

Lusted for a Landy but the Pajero was sexier and bigger in the right departments, just like my Missus.

I had a look at second hand prices and a 1996 model 3.5 will attract maximum about R50k if running in good nick.

    Non-runners from R20-R25k.

So I reckon if the idea is to repair and sell, then only the import engine is a viable option. But either way, only around R25k profit.

A water hose blew and there was no indication that it had no water. Temperature gauge showed normal too. I think the motor needs a lot of work to sort out.

I would like R25K for it as is. You can see the pics in my profile. We would have to discuss the price though.

Thanks. That really helps. I don't think I will be able to repair it and make profit. If I repaired it I would keep it. I would like R25K as is. It is quite clean.

I don't understand this statement. I am taking all the advice I can get and following up on all leads. I have a very tight budget though and have to see what works for me.
