Default Goodwe Hybrid Inverter - Advice Needed

    Hello Guys,

I have a GW5048-ES installed at my home in Johannesburg and am looking for a supplier with proper knowledge of the operating parameters and firmware upgrade procedures.

The system has been working very well since installation but now has a bug which I suspect to be the firmware.

It was installed by a company that has now evaporated and I am looking for competent expertise to assist me. If you know of a skilled company or individual in Joburg or Pretoria that can assist I would appreciate it if your advise.

    Be lekker,
    Roger

I concider myself reasonably skilled on that unit.

I have the new firmware, know how to program it and know how to set it up properly.

I should, itís my all time favorite unit.

What bug does it have ?

You are free to discuss things here, on a PM, or via E-Mail if you prefer.

There are a few GW Hybrid users here, so maybe some open info will be useful.

And if Fluffy cannot help you over the "air", we could possibly make a plan with a call out.

Love my Goodwe, really making me proud and we save about R90 a day on electricity.

But, one major drawback I have found is re connecting the wifi link to your modem.

For some reason it drops that wifi connection every few days and then does not update your info on the app so you cannot correctly see how much power has been made, usage patterns etc.

Then to reconnect is a drama. You would think it would just a soft push button reset mode.

    Ha Ha.

    Panel power off
    Grid power off
    Batteries off
    Inverter off

    Panel power on
    Grid power on
    Batteries on
    Inverter on

Log onto units own wifi network
Enter all your network info and password
    log off local network
    Log onto normal network.

And still not sure what is causing it to drop out. We did find one cause was the electrician who installed it would come heer on other work projects or for tea and his phone would auto join the local Goodwe network and cause it to drop out.

Sometimes find a laptop in the house has just joined the network, causes problems.

But, otherwise the best. Just wish the local municipality would stop thinking of how they are going to fine us or tax us as we now use less power. Same as CT. People were ordered to use less water, so they used less water. So the metro made less money so they taxed the bigger water savers.

If only the municipality would buy back from us.

And on that subject, and maybe it is a new thread - our town is only pre paid meters.

You pay no matter which way the current flows.

What meter is needed to officially sell back to a municipality and how much should they pay you for the power.

Any one got input on this.

Local municipality sells for R2.13 per kilowatt. Buys at about 95 cents per kilowatt from Eskom.

    Makes R1.18 profit per kilowatt.

Lets say they paid us 70 cents, the would make 25 cents more profit.

Or have I lost the plot.

    Cheers.

Cape Town has a feed in tariff, but they (in their infinite wisdom) have a daily "access" fee, and a reduced feed-in charge, so all in, you need to sell about 4000 kWh back to them, just to break even.

Touch wood, our Goodwe has been purring along perfectly for three years, no firmware update, no wifi issues. But please do share your discussion on the problem and fix here, for future reference.

One thing I want to do is split our array to the two PV inputs and add two panels to the one array. The installer has emigrated. Are there any Goodwe/ PV installers left in CT who can assist?

Still loving the Goodwe, so much so just ordered a second unit for our other guest house.

The new house has perfect a roof - pitch and direction are 100% spot on so only need 2 strings of panels, 10 on each MPPT.

Now want to to look at wind generation again. Our primary guest house has great wind at night, how can we harvest this?

Fluffy had concerns on feeding the turbine power directly into the batteries, software algorithm issues and concerns.

Any progress on this? Would love the extra power when the sun is not shining.

    Cheers.
