Default Jeep Club RSA Outing 8 February 2009 - photos

Here's some photos of the event on Sunday 8 February. We went to Sabrix in Pretoria and had plenty of fun.

There was a total of 18 vehicles present, models included CJ2, CJ5, CJ6, CJ7, YJ, TJ, JK (2 door and 4 door), ZJ, XJ - only ones that seemed to be missing was the KJ (Liberty), Wagoneer, CJ3 and the CJ8.

If you were there and are looking for photos of your vehicle, pm me the registration number and I'll try and source some. We've got over 500 photos of the event, so chances are we've got it.

It's insane how much place there is to play there. We didn't even see 10% of the place.

Just had a closer look at #9... are the front wheels of that XJ really that high in the air, or is it an illusion?!

No you are seeing right, he flew up the slope and all 4 wheels left the ground.

But all in all was a very fun day out. I clearly need more ground clearance thou.

    Thanks Bushcamp for the invite

All fours in the air. He sat in the line-up, watching guy after guy fail to get it. Made sure about it the first time!

Hmmm... Can't say that I see that as responsible offroading... Then they wonder afterwards why their vehicles break so easily, like the guy that claimed that "Atlantis broke his Jeep".

I wouldn't classify it as irresponsible either. It was under controlled circumstances, in a controlled environment, with only marshalls in the immediate vicinity. A little reckless? Sure. Did he break anything? Sure. Did he blame anything / anyone else but himself? No. Did we chew his ass out for it? Yes.

Schoolfees, yes. I agree with Bushcamp. Experts can guide you, but it doesn't mean that some guys won't get it wrong regardless. Hell, I've been in the same situation where I tackled the obstacle with waaaay too much speed after watching the previous attempts struggle. Happens a lot when you drive an XJ.

So what was the damage? And which suspension kit is he going to upgrade to now?

He showed up with, as he put it, "a bent axle"

When parked later, we went to have a look, seems that he has a broken side shaft, but there is signs of previous suspension damage. I have no idea what the extent is, will try and find out.

I don't know what he's upgrading to - but it was bought before the meeting.

Do you know if the broken side shaft is on the front or rear axle?

I called home quickly to make sure my Jeep is still in the garage... same colour, same bumper with spare carrier... different mags so i was only mildly worried

Yep, also almost did the same at Dirt and Dust a while back, first slow attempt failed, then gave more gas, before I new it I was at the top of the obstacle. Had to hit the brakes to stop me launching over the top.
