    Default Vehicle parts prices

Just read this article and it got me thinking.
    https://www.wheels24.co.za/News/Guid...in-sa-20180817

Can anyone recommend an online site for parts that's reasonably priced? In this case, for my Freelander 2.

    Thanks in advance

How do you know you are getting quality part which is non-oem? Example, oil-filters/Fuel Filters between different brands have different inner materials which could be bad or good in the long term.

Luckily with land rover there are a lot of parts available at decent prices.

Many of them are made by the OEM who supplies to Land Rover, but just not branded by Land Rover.

As we all know the land rover sticker adds about R1k to the price of a part.

Not necessarily online, but many suppliers who will courier parts to you. Just call and order the parts.

Most of the landy spares places are quite knowledgeable about which aftermarket parts are good and which are not.

Britpart in general is cheap but quality is not great.

I have had very good service from landy parts 4 africa. You can speak to Johny I have found him very knowledgeable about which parts are good and which are not.

    Hope it helps.

I have just had the pleasure of my range Rover notifying smugly on the dashboard that the brake pads are worn. Phoned Land Rover Menlyn. Front pads R5200 for both wheels. Rear pads R3000 for both wheels. Two sensors R500 each.

Stopped off at British 4x4 on my way back from site and bought all of the above for R1800.

I will be fitting them tomorrow taking "cold one" breaks every so often. Maybe I will finish the last two wheels on Sunday............

Do I know if the pads are good quality? I don't. But for the difference in price I can do 5 changes before it becomes a financial problem. And I doubt that British 4x4 will sell absolute crap as they will very quickly start losing customers if they do, and they have been going for many years without problems.

Land Rover does not "Manufacture" diesel filters, they go to the diesel filter manufacturers and ask them nicely if they order 10 000 filters would they put them in Land Rover boxes. Same with many so-called OEM parts for as many manufacturers.

How much money does the dealers make from spares................?

I used Dover parts in Selby when I owned my Landies. I know that British 4x4 also buy their spares from Dover

What I love about this question is the excellent feedback and advice from experts. In these difficult times every cent helps, and what's more is that spares profiteering by the dealers has never been checked before - may be now is the time to listen to the manne?
    Well done and thank you!

Hi GreenJustin. I think thats the point of the article on wheels24, that a lot of the time the quality is the same (sometimes the same product out of the same factory with different branding), yet the price at the dealership is hugely inflated. Here's an article from Charles Black of LP4A discussing british vs indian or chinese parts(http://www.lp4a.co.za/pages/about_us.php). Thanks nedge for the recommendation.

The intention is admirable. I'd like the right to repair where I choose.
Aftermarket parts are many times the equivalent of OEM as those manufacturers sell to the OEMs.

I see the OEMs getting around this problem by amending their supplier contracts along the lines of the suppliers not being able to sell their products on the open market but rather only through the stealers.
Its not about how fast you are but about how quick you get there...

And some independent tests have shown that some of those non OEM parts including filters to be the same or better than OEM. Needs a bit research. That research gives often very good hourly rate due to savings.

For more expensive parts check prices in UK and in Germany. UK is a funny country. Maybe still but at least few years back it was cheaper to buy UK made car from Germany. Car never left UK. Purchase via internet. It was delivered directly to buyer. Same applies to parts. Have some family in UK and they have confirmed.

Not a car part but SWAMBO wanted to buy something for her hobby years back. Her ticket to London was paid for by the price different there and here. Same applies for many other items.

When I buy something in Europe I just Google. After finding the supplier I try to look reliability of the supplier. Over very many years and purchases we have lost only one small item. There was delivery issue by post in UK at that time.

British 4x4 in Pretoria sorted me out. Quick, efficient and reasonably priced. Courier should deliver on Monday. Even with delivery charges, new part from them was so much cheaper than what I've been quoted in Cape Town.
