I think it is illegal to work on Eskom infrastructure? (especially after the fault was logged )

The pole is rather high. I have seen them reset those with long poles, but I don't know an electrician whom I could ask.

There's one in KWT, but it's doubtful his 4X2 would make it to EL.....

DIY is attempted suicide if not properly trained. Its not 220 volts.

It's an Isuzu... it will make it.

However, Eskom might be there sooner🤣

If you know what you're doing, hooking a new fuse in and swinging it up into place only gives a small spark, and no harm to yourself. But if you provide a reasonable path to earth for that 11 000 Volts, it will toast you like a peanut in a blow torch flame, in less than a second.

All you need is the correct equipment

Advocating that anyone with equipment (diy or certified) and a youtube video bugger around with an 11kV power line is just plain irresponsible.

That is not a fuse link. That is a solid link that has dropped out. Cause for it to do that is either the retaining spring in the unit has weakened/burnt or the unit is buggered or the link was not pushed in correctly.

As much as I would like to help, unfortunately our municipal bylaw prevents me from working on another supply authority line. If that link was to be reconnected by myself and it does not make correct contact, then equipment burns/damaged. I would be held accountable by the consumer/s.

Another thing to consider is link stick voltage ratings...our link sticks are rated to carry 11kv,escom have link.sticks rated over 1111kv.

Best is write down the structure number and inform escom of structure number and farm/holding stating a solid link has fallen out

To close out this thread - the power was back on at 15:00 on Monday, 3 and a half days after the link fell out!

The low voltage blew the DSTV decoder and a few LED globes.

Much more important than the correct equipment is the correct knowledge.

Install a fase failure relay and contactor and then you should not any problems other than no power. Beter that not the correct voltage.
