Default Convert vehicle to Gameviewer/Hunting vehicle...

    Hi All
Just looking for some opinions and experiences.
I currently have a Nomad 2.5 Chevy all original, which I use as hunting vehicle and game viewer.
I have sold it as it has the following draw backs:
    - It lacks 4x4, we have some dry rivers to drive through and it gets stuck every so often.
    - It can only realistically have one bench for game viewing, would like to have at least two on the back.
    - The load bin is tiny and not a lot of space for loading animals when hunting.

So with this in mind I am looking for the ideal vehicle to buy which I can convert to a game viewer / hunting vehicle.
    The following is must haves:
    - 4x4
    - Long wheel base
    - Diesel
    - Price range after conversion R100k

    Nice to have:
    - Comfortable drive
    - Auto locking hubs

What vehicles are out there to consider and what are the pros and cons?

You won't find anything decent under R100k.

The only option I can suggest is an old single cab bakkie (Nissan Hardbody, Mitsu Colt, Isuzu KB280), then chop the single cab roof and door tops off. But I had a quick look on the Interwebs: really REALLY scarce if you need something pretty.

But some ratty options are out there if it will never leave the game farm:

I have been watching the adds, I am just concerned about availability of parts on the older vehicles.
We use some old colt rodeos on the farm, and getting parts for them is always a struggle.

But I think something like the Isuzu might be a bit easier, to get spares for...

I would say for a comfortable ride you'll need coil springs all round.

Does the Nissan Safari have coil or leaf in the back?

Dont really want to suggest land rover, but, maybe a cheap discovery v8?

What about a cheaper vehicle already made into a game viewer? I looked at one the other day, it had no papers but on a farm it would not really matter. Asking price was about 30k.
Iirc it was a series 2 or 3 Landy with full game viewer setup

    Safari is leafs

D1 V8 will need a LOT of fabrication, is petrol, and is only a Medium Wheel Base at best.

A series Landy is hardly comfortable, but it would tick the boxes for being robust with plenty of spares

you might even be able to find one with a diesel conversion

The only vehicles I have seen are Landys, and mostly Petrol.
If only the Colt spares weren't so hard to come by, it would have been ideal.
I will continue watching the web, will find something like a 2.8 Isuzu kb 4x4, which will tick most of the boxes...

    Why do you need diesel?

Diesels are much more noisy then petrol and I've often seen game being spooked by a diesel clatter.

A game farm vehicle will hardly have issues with mileage? Surely a few KM per day?

Just remove that fugly roof, quick repaint with brown PVA, add some seats, and you're good to go.

I have done all my game drives in many parks in mostly diesel vehicles. It really does not seen to bother animals at all. Maybe where there is hunting and it was done from a diesel vehicle but they really don't seem more skittish from a pure viewing point of view.
