I am in the market for a not so expensive gazebo... How are those Bushbabies that Checkers sell for R499? Anyone any experience?

Can't help you with the bushbaby quality but Kooskop got quite far with a "cheapie" Campmaster just by securing it correctly. Check here:

If that is the one which you need to assemble piece by piece..... RUN! Run out of that checkers as fast as you can..... and into a Makro to buy a campmaster 100 with center lock for around 1K. Then buy thicker guy ropes and some nice sturdy pegs/spirals.

    You will not be sorry...

I often see "Fine living" gazebo's on special on onedayonly and snatcher. I guess they can also work, but the secret is in the thicker ropes and pegs/spirals.

So, I bought campmaster instant shade 100 from Game.
But guess what, it's raining where we are camping and it's written on the box of campmaster that the gazebo should not be used in any rain!
What's the point then? Has anyone used it in rain? I hope I don't have to return this back (still in box) and buy a waterproof gazebo... What options do I have then?

You mean you have the same gazebo and you used it in rain many times?

The main thing to do during the rain is to make sure the water doesnt accumilate on top of the gazebo.
Happened to us during a thunderstorm at night. Bent n buckled the poles.

Which brand is it, if you could reveal? How much did it cost?

Chat to Kooskop he has had several over the years.

    I would PM him.

Water pooling as mentioned is a major threat to all gazebos.

Also wind can bend the frames very quickly. With a gale you may have to get up in the middle of the night to take them down. Even with some of the expensive brands.

Most people seem to use them mainly for shade not rain protection.

The Bushbaby is good - as long as you view it as disposable! I've had quite a couple over the years!
