Default How to connect Solar panels ???

    Hi All

    I am purchasing 12 x SDDirectPro EnerSol 300 - 300W Solar Panels(open circuit about 32V)
My inverter is 48v input (Axpert 5kva)
I am not sure how to connect the 12 panels together as the incoming voltage entering the inverter must be higher then 48v

    Kindly assist

Your panels are nominated 24V hence you have to work groups of two in series is 6 groups
Then connect each group in parallel to each other.
    In total you will have 6 x 300W = 1800W in 24V

    Hope that helps.

    And batteries also 2 x 12 V or 12 x 2 Volt setup

    I have 8 x 200 Amp/hr AGM batteries
    wired up as 2 by 4 x 12 V= 48v banks (iaw 2 x 48 v in parralel)

From what I can see from the specs of your Axpert, you should connect 3 panels in series, and then connect 4 strings of these in paralell. The system will operate at around 72V with an open circuit voltage of close to 100V.

(The combined voltage of 2 panels in series are a tad too low for the 5kW Axpert to get the proper performance from its MPPT capability.)

Please beware of high DC voltages. They are dangerous and can easily turn lethal if one is not careful. Do not fool around with the panels if you are unsure of what you do. Get a pro to do it.

Don't agree as you sill calculate in 12V base connection.

Remember that he has a 48V controller and the panel itself with 32V dc (open circuit) output is a nominal 24V panel.
So serie the 2 of them to get to the input voltage of the 48V controller.

Key is the controller which I understand to be 48V.

Can't agree with this proposal as 3 in series is well overshooting the voltage the controller can handle (48V).

As a base for any assumption, a standard 12V panel does have between 17 and 21V open circuit output, so about 50% above nominal value.
The 32V open circuit would would indicate a nominal 24V panel (there is noting in between nominal 12 and 24V in DC standards.

Hence 2x24V in series (32V open circuit panel) will suit the 48V controller.
These are telecom industry standards all over the globe.

    This statement is completely wrong!
The 5kW does not indicate anything about the input voltage =48V.
The 5 kW (or better 5kVA) is a definition of what load the inverter can handle = 5kVA / 48V = 104 Amps

These 104 Amps on the 48V side would indicate that with an inverter you could connect around 20 Amps on the 230V AC side.

Guys please, read the manual before you make statements!!!
    The unit is rated 5kva.
The battery side is rated at 48V, thus 4 x 12V batteries is series is 100% correct.
If you have 8 batteries, you connect another 4 in series and then this 2nd string you connect in parallel.
Please make sure you have fuses between the strings of batteries.

Getting to the main question, the PV controller on this unit is rated at 145V max.
Recommended range from 60V to 115V.
So Eggie is 100% correct in saying connect 3 PV panels in series.
Then you have 4 strings of 3 PV panels each.
For best results have a PV combiner.
The least you should look at it to have a 10A fuse in each string before you common the strings.

    Best of luck!!!

You confusing amps and volts with series and parallel. It will be 6 X 600 the way its will be connected

That as stated is 100% correct. Between Eggie & Wetkit lies the answer.

300 Wp + Panels are 72 cell panels with open circuit voltage of around 40volts.
3 in series is correct so as not go above the max of 145V .
At low ambient temps open circuit voltage's can go above their ratings .
Next most important !! Make sure the batteries are connected correctly.
    4 batteries in series x 2
negatives and positives from both banks to copper busbars with all equal lenght cables (50mm2).
    Ceramic fuses to inverter
