Default Looking for outdated GPS cable

    Hi Gents

Im hoping you could point me in the right direction to find a GPS cable.

Im looking for a GPS to USB cable for a Garmin V GPS. I am told it works on various other Garmin GPS's.
The cable I found online comes in at R850 which I just think is ridiculous.

    thanks

Have you tried Garmin head office in Sandton? They sometimes have a box of old cables for free.

I might have the serial to Garmin one. I took it out of something a few years ago and it should still be in the bits of cable bin. Will have a look tonight.

    Thanks Wynand and Jelo.

I emailed Garmin and they replied with a link to the appropriate cable on their site. Pricey but at least it still available.

You are looking for Garmin Part No. 010-10141-00 . That is the one with the serial (RS232) connector. A simple USB to Serial dongle will sort this.

Look at this one at RS : https://za.rs-online.com/web/p/sat-n...ories/3517949/

EDIT: Suddenly the item disappeared from their catalog. Discontinued.

If you do not come right, get the cable in post #3 and get a serial to usb cable. Easily obtainable from places like Takealot. That is how I connected my old Garmins many moons ago

    Thanks Marius.

Mike I Would actually be fine with just the serial cable. Garmin has the gps to serial and then the serial to usb adapter. R550 for the cable and R1050 just for the adapter, I might as well start putting that towards a new GPS.

I am buying the T4A maps as I need them because the disk space on the GPS is pretty small, but of course the maps are there for the next GPS as well
