Default Kgalagadi Trip Report - May 2018

Overview: This was the first trip to KTP for my sister and her husband. They travelled from Plettenberg Bay and we travelled from Cape Town. We met up and over-nighted at Kalagadi Lodge, 5km before Twee Reveiren park gate. My vehicle with RTT and towing off road trailer (mobile motel!). The weather ……

Very kind of you to take the time to share your lovely experiences, sightings and photographs.
I especially enjoyed the pics of the lanner, wild cat and brown hyena.

    Many thanks Xisbo,

Fantastic report and pictures! I always read trip reports with the greatest enthusiasm and huge expectations when they entail the "South African side of the park as I call to - Not the Mabua side. Only reason is because I have never been there and I always hear about the most amazing sightings and always fantastic pictures!

The Good news is.... 1 Oct to 6 Oct, I will be at Rooiputs 3 with Swambo and my kids for the first time!

    Cant wait!

    Thanks again Xisbo!

Thank you for the entertaining report and the especially beautiful photo's. I really like the photos of the falcons and the backlit lioness stalking the two cheetah . . . I suspect she did not get very far because she already had a full belly!

We were there at much the same time too and were constantly surprised at the variety and number of birds we saw. I suspect though that your pygmy falcon is actually a Gabar Goshawk, which we also saw, but I was not able to get such a good photograph of it. The bars on the belly and the fully grey head are distinctive, whereas the pygmy falcon has a very white front and face. Both are very attractive birds.

Thank you - you are correct - NOT a Pygmy - as you say probably a Gabar Goshawk

I just love trip reports of KTP, it is my favorite park and I always enjoy reading recent feedback. Thank you very much for the effort to compile XisBo.
