With DC to DC your batteries gets taken care of a lot better.

Big initial capital expence but you get more than one piece of equipment.

    1. Very good alternator charge up to 14.4V as opposed to 13.8V
    2. Solar controller built in that can take quite a few watts of solar panels
    3. Solar controller (MPPT)
    4. "Reverse" solar function that takes care of main battery when parked up for long time and auxiliry batteries are full

Alternator power gets "boosted" and you dont get much voltage drop over long distances. With solar panel on roof
and already wired into DC to DC, power keeps flowing into batteries the moment you switch off engine. Nothing needs to be
set up and you get a constant charge to batteries. Batteries don't run that low and they get recharged faster next time you drive.

When you buy a 220V battery charger you buy a good one. Why would you not buy a good 12V "charge"?

I have the fridge in the PS. I like it that way as we do a lot of day trips. Also handy to keep stuff cold while shopping or visiting friends after shopping.
The trailer needs another battery, obviously. I will not have a fridge in the trailer, but it will be handy for lights and stuff.

Getting the battery for gratis as well, so why not?
