    Default Cake glitter...

So we have become a society where glitter sells....

And glitter is even on icing of cupcakes and cakes.....to be gobbled.

Was in shop today where they sell 'plastic icing''

Ooh‚ koek! That lekker cupcake glitter you love is actually plastic

When qualified food technologist Kate O’Dowd asked Cape Town-based baking goods supplier Barco for a break-down of its “Flitter” glitter product‚ on behalf of a friend wanting to add glitter to a lip balm‚ the company sent her an email describing it as “non-toxic and for removable cake decorations and crafts only” and listing the ingredients as polyester (90 - 95%) aluminium‚ epoxy resin‚ chromium and dyes.

Every time I see a post of yours I think I am in a pizza & pasta forum (should I start a super thread about all your restaurant related moans and groans?)

...and I like eating cake while drinking beer in the pub!

    Nothing wrong with eating cake

Just don't tell people to, you might get your head chopped off.

Yup, that's how they manage to get the glitter to look like pearl paint.
Previously, it was glitter in gold or silver, mostly.

    Default Cake glitter...

Being in the food business I can tell you a lot of what we eat wasn’t considered food just a few decades ago.

Just read this list of ingredients in a humble chicken and mushroom pie.

    Aaaah humble pie.

Realistically the laws are part of the problem.

If you analysed what was in a pie or a portion of milk 30 years ago the list of ingredients may even have been worse. We didn't even know or recognize what we where putting in then...Many of the harmful substances that where there in large concentrations have actually been removed.

The posted ingredients list , is an extensive list of minute elements of possible ingredients. Possibly even trace elements, that not many of us actually know if they are harmful of helpful in the applied concentrations. (Concentrations that are neither declared or understood)

So when the ingredients schedule says - For instance - Contains Turtle Turd. Unless it tells us how much Turtle Turd and unless we understand what Turtle Turd is, and how good or bad it is for use. Sorry boet, it is just smoke and mirrors.
