Thumbs up Unabridged birth certificates to be printed in passports

According to this article, Home Affairs is moving to a paperless system.

For new child passport applications, the unabridged birth certificate will be printed in the back of the child's passport and will not be issued as a separate document anymore.

I see this thread had a few views, but more people seem online this morning so just bumping it anyway as I think it is quite useful info for anybody travelling cross borders with children.

    I like this...

Yet to travel internationally with the two little ones but taking the birth certificates with on local flights was just a huge pain. I do not have a problem carrying identification but those little A5'ish papers do not travel well and not the easiest to look after. Passport made to travel and will handle all the 'handling' a l whole lot better

True, I am very happy about this as my son is going on a school rugby tour to England next year. One less thing for him to lose.

Will apply early next year for him to get his visa in the new passport which will be his last child passport.

I renewed my 2 litlle ones' Passports last week, and no UBC's stamped anywhere.

When is this going to happen?? Would be nice, not having to carry all those papers.

Still a PITA though - we're going fishing on Katse this weekend, only me and the boys, so Mariza needs to do an Affidavit that I'm allowed to take Sev (14) across the border, blah blah blah.

But yes, I guess if this prevents only ONE child being smuggled its 100% with me.

Petri, the article seem to say that it will start happening from 13 July as part of updates to offices.

I've also missed it by a few weeks, would have been nice.
