    Maybe this categorizes me as a total nerd but I am fascinated by how clever our cars of today have become.

    Such high strength that you see bakkie load areas cracking on many models..........

    Yes, the fun of high strength steel.

    I haven’t watched the clip, but I assume they basically talking about is the Domex type steels up to about 700MPa. We use this stuff on all our designs, the margin for error when that cow Fatygoo comes around is very small. The endurance limit for these steels is about the same as “mild steel” strangely enough.

    Yeah the stronger they get the more they crack.

    I think this issue is mounting a too rigid load bin via rubber on a ladder frame chassis. Take the load bin off an old bakkie, the thing flexes like a wet tissue box.

    There’s a fundamental difference between stiffness (your wet tissue box above) and tensile strength of the steel. The two aren’t related. FYI.
