I also have 2 of them, one in each car. I'm very happy with the video quality and ease of use.

    Sorry for the hijack

I'm planning on a Garmin Overlander GPS

Are there major benefits to getting a Garmin dash cam and having them work together? Perhaps front and rear and use the rear as reverse cam?
    Is this possible?

I am still very happy with my Garmin Dashcam 56 - great video quality - not a cheapie.
This is the standalone dashcam not the one combined with a gps which some say
has much lower quality than the standalone.

Dashcam needs easy to see screen. You cannot fiddle with a phone while driving. The main issue is the alignment. Point it a bit too much up and the brightness balance is out, a bit left or right and you do not get necessarily what you need.

I bought an eagle eye dash cam off this forum. You can set the on and off time ie start vehicle then dash cam comes on. It can be set for motion as well.

Question - I am using a shorter USB cable from a car charger to power the device instead of the supplied power cable, but have the cable dangling from the charger to just below the rearview mirror where it is located. Do you use a different way to power your device? I am leaning to a more permanent solution, but not sure which way to go.

I'm using the supplied cable. I managed to push it in between the top of the windscreen and the roof lining. Then it goes down on the passenger side - also pushed in behind the panel. In behind the glove box to the back of the dash. There I wired in a lighter socket. Cable plug into that socket. All is hidden.
