I was waiting for a thread like this. My BIL farms near Velloorsdrift and told me that the Upington Toyota dealer was quite frank in admitting that he was struggling to source enough low-mileage D4D's. Apparently, and obviously this is not first-hand information, the Kalahari and Southern Nam farmers are not too happy with the new Hilux.

But I agree with grips - I don't think it is only the Hilux that is becoming softer. My Amarok would die a quick and rattly death if I had to use it in the same way that those farmbakkies are used.

We had 3 different 2.5 D4D single cabs that had cracked body panels before 60000 km travelling Kalahari sand roads daily. The side panel just infront of the back wheel the biggest problem.
I cannot comment on the new Hilux though.

It is always interesting to see how people complain on one fred about bakkies getting soft and on another fred other guys complain that the ride is to to hard and they want more gadgets.

Manufacturers will never get it right.

Even if Nissan SA offers the Patrol Pickup with a free Gelandewagen thrown into the deal, they would'nt be able to sell it.

The Nissan Safari (earlier days) and Patrol marketing by Nissan has been one huge joke - to put it mildly.

Have one of the best 4x4's, the GRX 4800, on your floor at a bargain price.

    Just do'nt advertise it.

You gonna sell MILLIONS of them.

    Not.

And stop making the Patrol Pickup with the 4,2 Diesel, and dont offer it with a 4,8 Petrol. Let Toyota take all the sales.

The problems with the new Hilux are just not ending! After another 20 000km, engine mounts replaced again and clutch had to be replaced. Release bearing gets dust into it, fails and destroys the clutch. Spoke to Toyota here in Windhoek and they say the clutch release bearing has an issue and they get a lot of cars coming in because of that. I don't know, never had so many problems with the old D4D! I know that the conditions in Namibia are more harsh, but what a disappointment.

When a new model comes out , it takes years to sort out all the little niggles .

People should never buy new. Otherwise they must accept the idea that they are the guinea pigs. The new Hilux will be fine in a few years time , once Toyota have addressed all the issues.

It takes years to sort out a model after it has come out and all the mechanical and structural issues have been fixed.

So on this thread the Revo is new and not tried and tested. Yet on others it is claimed to be tried and tested and Africa ready and reliability is a done deal?

That's the way to do it.

The D4D is just about ready now, whereby most issues are known and sorted and it's a safe bet.

    Well done Sir!
