Spare key for Land Rover?

Good day all.

I'm looking for a place where I can get/code a spare car key.
My car mechanic advised me that I will need to go to the Land Rover agent, since they are the only one who can code the microchip in the car key and get the car to work (he said that while the usual keysmiths would be able to copy the key, it will cause the car to stop shortly after it starts).

Is this true? Which reliable source can I go to get a spare key coded (other than the agent), since I would prefer not to pay 5k for a key?

This is for a Freelander 2, Land Rover and I stay in Cape Town.

I got a new fob and had it programmed by these guys.

I have a Nanocom, but it's not coded for the FreeLander, otherwise I'd program it for you.

Good news. Please share where and at what cost. I have only one key right now, as one died after it dropped in water. Would like to get a new one.
