    Default Dometic fridge issues

We have the tall Dometic fridge with a large 30L freezer (RMD8551) in our caravan and with the temperatures as high as 26C, it does not cool down stuff in the fridge properly. The freezer will also defrost frozen food. In the cooler months it works perfectly.
I am not the only one with this issue and at the moment we are having a long spell of very hot weather where the average temperature is over 24C. Also have the issue when in Spain. Hot weather is brilliant on Mud Island for the outdoor and may it last long.
Any advice would be welcomed as we are off to France in September and the temperatures will be just as high. Thanks.

It could be a gas issue - too little gas in the system. When the ambient temperature is low it does not have very work hard to keep everything cold and frozen and as soon as the ambient temperature goes over a certain value then there is insufficient gas in the system to provide the required cooling effect. It is also important to determine if the compressor is cycling i.e. switching on and off. There is a "dead-band'' setting (usually inaccessible) on the thermostat so that the compressor will remain switched-off until the temperature inside the fridge has risen by a certain amount before it will switch on again and if the compressor is not cycling this usually points to a gas issue. Also buy yourself a fridge thermometer so that you can see to what temperature the fridge is cooling or if you have access to a temperature data logger that you can put inside the fridge, for a day or two, and check how the fridge performs and to what temperature the fridge is cooling and also see if it is cycling.
    Good luck.

Apologies I should have mention that the fridge is about 8 months old, runs mainly on electric and is fine in cooler temperatures. Long hot weather spells are unusual. It has settings for EHU, Gas and Battery. Thanks for the tip ref the fridge thermometer as we are at the caravan dealer for a couple of days later this month.

Symptoms of a 3 way fridge. Needs lots of ventilation.

True but with high humidity it is a killer. At the moment it feels like we are back in Durban. The fridge is the absorption type fridge. Are caravans in SA fitted with compressor fridges?
