I have an 80litre SM and as of yesterday the left compartment has overridden the preset temperature. It basically went down to minus 25. It was set at 6 degrees.

The right compartment is working perfectly. The fridge is not even a year old and is only used in the house to keep my beers cold.

Anyone know what could be the problem?

    Thanks

Take it to SnoMaster, mine did the same after many many years and 3 drops.
Mine was to old and SnoMaster would repair it but with no warranty.
Think they give a 5 year warranty, so might be a better option

I have had this before on quite a few occasions, mainly when switching from mains to 12v or visa versa, and when the temp reading is below the set temperature.
I found that when switching power sources, I leave it off for around 10 min before switching it on again, or just leave it on the battery all the time with a charger on the battery.
I think it has something to do with the solenoid valve that directs the refrigerant to either side, getting confused.

Yes there are absolutely no threads on the forum about National Luna ever having a problem

You really should learn when to keep quiet. A brand new NL I got with my Boskriek broke down just as we were preparing to leave for a trip.

The fridges have a temperature sensor, like a copper strip thermostat, that starts and stops the compressor. That had failed. Itís not an expensive fix. My Dometic cost about R1,100 to fix.

My truth about snomaster. I have the big 95L dual compartment unit bought about 4 years ago.

I bought it because I needed a fridge/ freezer to take with on fishing and hunting trips. I chose it above NL because of price and standard equipment such as baskets, remote control and a cover. I took the biggest unit they have because I use it to make and keep many beers cold in addition to food. It has been in Mozambique, Eswatini and the northern parts of South Africa multiple times. It resides on the back of my bakkie under the tonneau cover when I travel so is subjected to severe conditions in terms of temperature fluctuations as well as vibration from the roads I travel on.

It has been tasked with cooling beverages and keeping meat frozen in ambient temperatures ranging from -2 in winter to 45+ deg C temperatures in the Limpopo valley during February and has done so without issue. I have run temperature differentials as high as 15 deg C between compartments successfully although it is obviously easier for the machine to maintain smaller discrepancies between compartments.

In essence it has done all I asked of it reliably and at the end of the day that is what most people want from any piece of equipment, isn't it?

I am very sure too if I had bought a NL or Waeco or Engel that my opinion would have been the same. I don't go outdoors to compare my equipment with that of my neighbour's. What I do know is that if you want to be known as the twat in a group start brand bashing or throwing comments around about the superiority of your fridge/ vehicle/ tent. Nobody likes a braggart.

Jip it's called a thermister. If you do it yourself it costs around R15 for the part (but it is a pain to get to)

    This Snomaster vs Luna thing.

    I still don't get it.

It reminds me of the Toyota vs any other brand debate. Apparently, Toyota's never break down, but yet everybody is so worried about the availability of parts...

My snomaster must be about 6 years old now. It has worked and toured hard. It has not missed a beat...

FIL has 2 campmasters. One about 8 to years old and other 6 years. One permanent on in garage other camping. Both do horrible gravel roads in the back of bakkie during decembers.

not a cent spent on either.
I owned one for about 4 years before selling and upgrading to SM 85 Dual zone.

Some fridges are popular because of their good back up services. Other because it rarely need a service.

Was not that lucky. Had to discard 2 of the said brand as they stopped working due to leaks. The piping inside the foam corroded/ broke with futile repair attempts by the agents.

Bought 3 Engel fridges and never looked back. NL at that stage did not want to supply small trade, and would have been my first choice.
