    Default VW Arteon

Saw this in the flesh for the first time yesterday, and I have to admit it's one of the most beautiful 4 door sedans I've seen a long time.

Starting price around R600K, I do wonder who will buy it?

Looking at the (lack of) success of the Passat, an otherwise excellent car, I can see these being a rare sight on our roads.

The fact that it's not called passat counts for a lot.

Not the the passat was a bad car. I had a B5 1.8T passat and I loved it to bits!

Pas gekoop sat gery, still remember it...

Passat is one of those cars that you have to own to appreciate. It's mostly critizised by those who's never even sat in one.

My only concern with the Arteon is whether there really is a market for:

    A. a large VW saloon

    B. a large saloon.

Everyone wants an SUV or Crossover or DC bakkie these days.

I love large saloons, they're some of the most comfortable long distance cruisers out there. Perhaps, in 3 or so years when low mileage Arteons are going for half their selling price now, it will be a good bargain...

Cars.co.za review. In summary, good car, but could have been great (and should have, at the price.)

it will not sell in any significant numbers largely due to the badge. I will certainly be looking very closely at one when the time comes to replace swambo’s cc.

And of those sold, I bet the big majority will be demos.

I really like it, but buying one new is going to be financial suicide.

Popping into my local VW dealer this morning to drop off some sponsored cupcakes, and the VW Arteon they have in stock is still standing in the showroom. Nope, the salesman confirmed, they haven't sold a single one.

    Interesting...

Nope, no secret. SA is way to brand conscious to buy a high class VW. Same with the Passat.
No matter how brilliant they might be, we'll walk over to the Merc/BMW and buy that.

Yup, the same reason some will pay 1 bar for a Navara with a 3 pointed star, is why they won't buy an Arteon.

For someone looking for a nice large saloon in 2 or so years, the few they sell now will make excellent used bargains.

Those who own the CC love them - under-rated classy sedan.

The Arteon ups the CC's game a bit.

Sales figures are really immaterial for VW of SA.
Same as the Touareg and Phaeton (now discontinued), the top class models are there just to get the message over:
"We know how to build top class vehicles, using class-leading technology"

SA's sales volumes (for any manufacturer) won't make or break that company.

People will much rather spend the same money on an under specced entry level 3, C or A4. And if anyone does end up buying the Arteon, they will take a huge bath when selling it.

I reckon you will lose at least 50% in the first 2 years.

The Arteon in my eyes is currently one of the best looking cars on the road! I'll happily buy one should I be in the market.

    There is no R36. There is only 2 x 130kw tdi's and a 2l tsi in 206 kw format.
The 206 kw tsi is 4motion by default - not an option.

They do some of the best reviews on the web. Informative, funny, proper SI units and Cape Town provides a spectacular backdrop to their quality photography. Ciro is a gem.

But Polos and Golfs sell, in spite of the badge? Human reasoning is a mistery!
