    Default From Temptations to reality

So I did it, left land rover for this, it was a bitter-sweet transition but I'm looking forward to a better life here

1st up - I plan to do the wizerd lift, waiting for my former defender drawer thats on the classifieds to be bought first.

2nd to follow - concerned about the tyres the car came with given what I want to do with it, these are Dunlop SP SPORT 01, they look like road tyres to me than anything else. I'm planning to go to Lesotho beginning of Aug with this car to "feel" it out, a mountainous trail or 2, can I trust in getting there and back with these or should I be looking for alternatives ASAP? - Suzuki Bramley sadly didnt have 17s around I could swap with so I'm stuck with 18s for now.

other stuff like a roof rack to follow later.

    Congrats, that looks great!

It amazes me that a 13 year old design can still look so good today. I'm a huge fan of these, I think there are few more sorted vehicles available new.

As for the tyres, yes a swap to 17's will give you far more options as far as AT tyre choices go. Watch Gumtree, a set of 17's from the lower spec GV will fit perfectly and still look factory.

Very nice! Two things: I see you are in Centurion. You can buy the stofpad lift from Uys for R2500 not installed. I'm sure he can help you with install also, it's straight forward I did mine myself. Have a look at stofpad site for details.

If you plan on keeping the 18s I can offer you a second spare rim and tire for free. I have X3 spares in total and other two take up garage space. I only need one.

Thank you for the heads up GKE, I think Ill speak to Uys about that stofpad lift kit. Just to ask, I did some reading but this part became a blur to my brain just now, what's so different about the stofpad lift kit and that of wizerd, why the drastic pricing difference? and how does warranty play with these? I understand that the Wizerd ones don't void it (probably why i was considering it)?

As for the rims, Thank you for the offer but I think let me pass it by, I REALLY really want to go small so I dont think it would help having 6 18s, or maybe to whoever I might sell them to, not too sure now...

The stofpad and Wizerd kits are very similar in function.I think the price difference is that the Wizerd one includes the installation. I've had my Stofpad kit for a couple of years now and very happy, very nicely made kit. Had no issues with warranty as the lift amount is the same on both.

    Congrats, she's a beaut.
I have 18" Pirelli road tyres (came with them on) on my V6 and have done Sani Pass twice and 2 x 4wd tracks at Ithala Game reserve with no problems whatsoever. I did have some very minor "chipping" of the treads, but nothing significant and the Pirelli is notoriously soft.
Depending on where you plan to go in Lesotho, and whether it has snowed, you should be fine.

I was recently quoted fairly good prices on Yokohama Geolandar and Hancook AT tyres.

Thank you kippie2, your words are comforting, I can now relax about tyres. I kinda sliiightly been stressing about this wheels thing, after seeing THIS thread about 18s as well, did a quote on hankooks and Dunlop AT3's. I might be considering to keep the 18s after all, still really undecided but also dont have the moola at the moment so all I can do is just chill.

    Heres dunlops, if curious...

I also want to go all terrain but have the same lack of moola and couldn't justify ditching 4 brand new tyres.

Ideal world would be 16" rims which allows you to run standard bakkie tyres which will be easier to get if you have a problem somewhere remote. But then you have to replace 5 rims and tyres.

Here are some cheap 17 inch rims for you:

    http://www.4x4community.co.za/classi...for-sale/cat/4

If you want to go 16, you can pick up 5 Jeep KJ rims from a Jeep second hand dealer (like Monster Jeep in Pta - approx R500 per rim) or search gumtree for Hyundai Tucson rims.
