    Default Ford Ranger Airbox Noise

    Hi all

I am new to the forum so apologies if already been raised however, i currently bought a 2014 ford ranger and have this weird, more annoying than anything else, drone emanating from my airbox.

This drone/rattle noise only occurs at 1500rpm and nowhere else. Most prominent in 1st and 2nd gear (almost as if when the engine utilizes its low down torque, the rattle/drone starts). It is extremely frustrating and I would appreciate if anyone can provide input if ever experienced the same.

Does your accelerator pedal vibrate between 1500-1800 rpm?

Not at all...its def the airbox/housing unit because my wife will rev the engine gently to 1500rpm and the noise occurs until I apply slight downward pressure onto the airbox and it's gone..

I have no idea how to fix...I tightened the bolts in the housing but to no avail...

    Really annoying sound!

I found it's the mounting on the Airbox. They have metal inserts in them. When you tighten the bolts, the inserts stick out onto the bodywork and vibrate. If you look around where the bolts bolt into and the paintwork shows cracks or chips, it's the metal inserts.
Mine transmitted through to the accelerator pedal.

I put rubber washers under the bottom bolts so the metal inserts don't touch the bodywork.

So I opened the airbox and saw the bolts as advised by you...I did a bit of a DIY job and grinded the bolts a little bit shorter just so that they compress the box (works like a clamp effect) enough without making any contact with the body...

Man o man. Feels like my bakkie is brand new..so chuffed!!

    Thanks again Ditchdoctor

Good news. That rattle was the most irritating. Didn't even want to drive it at one stage.

Hi, same ones, mine had chipped the paintwork underneath. I put 1 x tap washer under, with a soft piece of rubber ontop of that and another soft rubber on the top so the bolt doesn't touch the metal of the mount.

Thanks again, it's almost perfect now.

One can clearly see where the bolt used to touch inside the steel bush.Click image for larger version.

Jip. Rubber washers under the air box brackets so the metal sleave doesn't touch the body. Vibration is gone

I would never understand why manufacturers, and I mean all of them, cannot sort out these little issues.

    Thanks again ditchdocter for sharing...
