Default Flaking on sidewall - ST maxx

Noticed what looks to be a bit of flaking on the sidewall of 2 tyres on my vehicle.
They are the older set of tyres (still well above 50% tread).

    The flaky bits rub off.

Just a bit worried as to what it is.
Could it be compromising the tyre?

Also noticed a small indent (less than 1mm deep).
You can see it on the right of the one pic.

    TIA

Looks like old Tyre polish that is rubbing off?

    Just a thought?

Interesting, actually had a conversation with somebody yesterday about these, he said the "flaking" is apparently quite common on the coopers, especially when driven often at lower sand temperatures etc.

    Will be following this thread.

Mine (also 265/65r16 cooper st maxx) have 92 000 kms on and does not have the flaking? Good tyres. Will replace soon with STT pro.
