    Default Tyre Pressure Monitor

About 9 years ago I bought a Tyre Dog monitoring kit with external sensors from ebay and it was shipped from Taiwan. I have now got 2 faulty sensors and the display holder is broken. I am unable to locate replacement sensors and the ebay suppliers no longer ship to RSA. Can anyone assist with information as to where to obtain new sensors or recommend another make which doesn't cost a fortune. Incidentally , the old iunit has saved me from destroying 2 tyres on my Land Cruiser 75 series.

    Try Aliexpress
They ship from various suppliers in China and you will have to be prepared to wait for your thingies approx. 4 to 8 weeks.

Try Abraham - [email protected] - 0829260585 (Abe on forum). He sells Tyreguard - great service. I have used mine for about 7 years. Saved me from ruining tyres about 6 times!

These screw-on units- do they affect the balance of the wheel? What about the centrifugal force on the valve stem, will the valve be happy being pushed against the rim?

Went the same route with Tyre Dog.The replacement units are very expensive. When I wanted to replace them 4 years ago they were R700 each.Rather get a new unit like Valor with internal sensors.Ive had mine for 4 years and never had a problem.
Then give the Tyre Dog a float test.Mine did not make the test.

I have those units, and haven't noticed anything...

BUT, what you could do is fit the units before the garage balances... that way it'll be properly sorted.

Did not cause any balance issues nor issues with centrifugal force on the valve stem on the car. However on the Comfortvan the centrifugal force did cause an issue due to the valve stems being quite long. Solution - fit shorter valve stems.

I can vouch for Tireguard from Abraham. Good service, good quality, works well.
Saved 1 tire for me recently in Namibia.
In the kit included is precut valve stem covers made from high density foam to prevent the valve stem from "flapping" against the rim etc.
    Otherwise fit shorter stems.

I use balancing beads in my tyres - have not had any balancing problems since using these instead of conventional lead weights.

You can always use a service like Aramex Global shopper. They give you an address in 50 countries or so and then you just let the seller send it to that address and then they courier it to you.

I had the Valor and was 100% satisfied with it until the sensor batteries became flat. When I wanted to order new ones, I was told that they no longer make sensors for that model and had to replace it with another unit. Needless to say, I opted for the Tireguard and is very happy with it.

Again, just make sure yiu have a spare set of batteries in the car. They are rare, especially where we travel.
