Default Suzuki Jimny 2015 speaker sizes

    Good day all,

I am in the process of upgrading my stock sound system from my newly acquired Suziki Jimny 2015. I tried to google online but got a mixed result between the older models and the SJ etc. So I just decided to open her up and have a look.

    Here is my findings:

    Stock Front Speaker:

Now when I convert 4" to cm one gets 10.16cm. My concern is that the front cutouts are certainly smaller. If anything they more like 9cm?

This worries me as I cannot simply order a new set of 4" speakers and know that they are gonna fit?

With regards to the rear, I read that they should be 5" 1/4" (slightly larger than the front).

Now these look more like your 4" hole cutouts?

Maybe some one has some experience with this?

What other options do I have?

Can one cut the hole larger using a dremmel?
I donot like the idea of this as the stock cutout has rounded edges. If I cut it, its then opening up metal to rust and could affect the structural integrity (especially at the back as the seat-belt bolts onto the metal right next to the speaker.
    See seat-belt connection here:

However at the back there is plenty of space to cut out a 5" hole for some decent speakers.

In the front there is minor space. However I have noticed in the front there is quite a bit of space (2-3 cm) between the speaker and the plastic cover. This means one could maybe come OUT abit. Maybe build a spacer ring which will take a larger speaker, as long as the magnet (back of the speaker) fits into the stock hole? (however this is going to heavily depend on the new speakers dimensions and build.)

speakers are measures from screw hole to screw hole not cone size.

Aah that makes a significant difference.

Im assuming there is then an international standard as to what dimensions will fit, Ie speaker hole is 8 mm from cutout.

unfortunately there is no standard and speaker sizes do differ a bit from brand to brand but usually the hole is big enough for the cone to fit.

If they don't fit, just either buy spacers, or make them from mdf

I went to an audio shop and ask them if I can try just fit some speakers for sizing.

If you just want plug & play:

    > front is 4"
    > rear is 5"

However 5 1/4" does fit in the rear hole. Just the mounting holes do not line up.
I went for the slightly larger ones in the back. However I had to drill additional holes. Which work fine, However there is a good chance these will strip should I ever remove the speaker a few times.

Here are some images for interest sake:
