Sorry Werner, I work on the newer stuff

The only place I think you could get a fair price would be from a collector, possibly a wealthy one. You could try to speak to someone from the SAAF museum as well. I'm sure they would also be able to confirm where it came from and possibly put you in contact with a collector.

If you can supply them the part and serial number they might even be able to give you the specific ones history i.e. what specific aircraft it was fitted to, where it did service etc.

If it was from a SAAF spitfire it would most probably have been from a 1 squadron aircraft that did service in the war. Being ex 1 squadron myself (in a different era naturally) I would have loved to get my hands on that if it was the case but sadly I wouldn't be able to pay what I think it might be worth

Off topic, but my late father was a Spitfire pilot in Number One Squadron in World War II, in action mostly in North Africa. There's a book written about the squadron during the war by Wing Commander Johnny Johnson, titled "Number 1 Squadron SAAF".

To get an idea of what people are asking for them, go to E-Bay, but it won't necessarily relfect what they SELL for and obviously not in your area.
I have a similar one, but older, that is currently undergoing restoration by one of the avionics guys at Cape Town International. It's a pity I am not cash flush right now, because I would have liked to have it.
    Cheers,
