Default Funny Clutch, Sounds, and Smoke

    Evening all,

It seems as if I shouldnít be allowed to 4x4. Several issues with my 2013 Jimny recently.

Tonight on my drive home, my clutch pedal felt like it gave way. I parked and let it cool down for several hours. Just went for another drive (about 25km) and something certainly isnít right. Thereís lots of play in the first half of pushing the clutch, and then an awful screeching sound when I fully depress. After some driving, I also see smoke that smells sort of like wet plants. Parked again and now it wonít even shift into first.

I did a water crossing last week that I suspect took the lube out of my clutch cable. Any other thoughts? Do I need a tow or can I drive it to the shop? Luckily Iím in the city this time around.

    Thank you!

I would say it could be your thrust/release bearing that ran dry and maybe seized.

Check the cavities under the vehicle (especially around the exhaust) for plant material. It wont solve the noise issue, but the smell and the fire risk will be gone.

I went to CKGR two years ago and the cavities around my exhaust (transfer case support) filled up with grass which caught fire when I stopped. Fortunately I smelled it immediately and had the fire extinguisher handy!

I doubt that the Jimny has a clutch cable. It is certainly hydraulic.

Unless it is a screw driver.

    indeed

The CitiGolf was probably one of the last small vehicles with a cable clutch.

how retarded but anyway..........symptoms indicated a clutch failure, not a cable problem

Nope - mine has a cable. Can't recall any Jimny over the last 20 years installed with a hydraulic clutch.
