Default Higher Profile tyres for Discovery 3 TDV 6

Getting the D 3 back on the road ..new Tyres is needed….

The D3 will be mostly used on very thick sand with sharp sticks and branches hiding underneath and possible sidewall damage is a risk… towing a Challenger trailer
Little bit of mud and mostly gravel but all terrains will do the job….

I am a high sidewall fan..(My Disco 1 runs on 235/85/R16) I had one sidewall cut in 5 years on those Nankang’s..and got my 60 000 Km from them and installed 4 new Nankang’s January. My spare was used only once for 100 Km when I had the side wall damage
(And the old used ones is now working on farm trailers)

Seems the recommended tyre is 255/60/R18 and the highly appraised Pirelli Scorpion is R 2700-00

    My question:

Will 255/70/R18 fit without rubbing..I do not want to do any wheel arch mods on the D3
    Yokahama Geolander @ R 2100-00 x 5
    GT Radials Adventura @ R 1700-00 x 5
The Pirellei Scorpio in this size is R3600-00 each and It seems to be P rated

On forums I have found :

265/70R18: won't fit without extreme modification

Is it the profile Hight or Width ??

285/65R18 (won't fit without a _lot_ of work): Nitto TrailGrappler, BFG AT, Hankook AT

275/65R18 (won't fit without a bit of work): Maxxis Bighorn, Hankook MT, Dunlop Rover MTTMAX, Goodyear MTR Kevlar, Cooper STT

285/60R18: Cooper Zeon LTZ, Nitto AT, Procomp AT, Falken AT, Dunlop Grandtrek AT3 ?? They say Nothing ..it is just noted..

I do plan to install a spare wheel carrier at the back…..

I've had 275/70R17's fitted, it was tight but it fitted. Note though that was with the lift rods installed.

    Dirk

    Thank you,

It crossed my mind to go back to 17's
As stated in a post ....there is a wider choice and cheaper...
If I am not mistaken the 2006 TDV 6 D3 came out with 17's

I like that ...the lift rods is censored I believe...?

The sizes you look at will not fit in the spare well.....you will have to fit the spare carrier
Tha profile is a % of width.265mm width /65(%) of the width is the hight=172mm.
Consider 17".The S models all came with 17" std.

I did a swop of 18 to 17 just after I got the Disco.

The spare does fit, but you have to deflate it, and a rachet strap helps plus a bit of fighting

    Meaning?

I had lift rods fitted for 3 years, only took them out when I had the electronic unit fitted (and now they lying on my desk!)

Yes, but it is R7000 for suspension controller VS R500 for the rods....

I've had both, if I had to do it again I will probably stick with the rods, the controller is nice, but it is just a nice to have, I cannot say that I needed/used it once really other than showing people what it can do.

Unless you opt for the IIDTool which does diagnostics and other configurations also. Rods work just as well.

265/65/18 rubs on full lock and tends to hook the front bumper on the standard ride height. It is a little better when lifted 30mm in the front by default.

    265/60/18 doesn't rub at all.

When I have done bumper, etc. then i'll go 285/70/18 or something along those lines to get more rubber to work with.

    Dirk, Thanks
“Yes, but it is R7000 for suspension controller VS R500 for the rods....

Ouch…With the cost getting the D3 alive again…R500 sounds like my cup of tea
Will definitely go for the rod option if I can get ??/70/18 profiles at affordable price

    Douglash.. Thank you

That is my target….to get as much rubber as possible
