I think your Fortuner will be different vehicle with a change of dampers. Tough dog foam are the best I have personally experienced on a Fortuner but I suspect Fox will be even better.

One of the forum members (QuQ) has just taken delivery of a Fortuner with Tough Dog. Any comments?
Both Tough Dog and Pedders do standard foam cell shocks and they definitely make a difference. If you end up liking them so much that you want to do them on front, just be aware that their bore is quote a bit bigger than standard and they don't always fit in the front coils. They're quite a bit cheaper than Fox. I've been running mine for 5 years.

My Fortuner has Tough Dog shocks and springs all-round and I am very impressed. The harshness has been reduced and the general composure a lot better. You have to do the full suspension due to the 40mm lift. The cost is about R20k so not much in it vs. Fox.

I try to go and watch most of our off-road racing events locally and you see a lot of competitors using Fox shocks . And then the new Raptor also using it so it must be good.

Why do you have to do the full suspension ? The suspension on the rear wonít be lifted If you replace the dampers only?

Do you plan to use the standard springs? Just check with the supplier first.

I bought Fox 2.0 adjustable shocks with the reservoir for my jeep Rubicon and can agree with th OP that it was worth every cent. Although R31k is REALLY expensive!!

But when you need to tow a heavy caravan offroad you adjust the front and rear shocks differently and it is just a pleasure.

The quote for the two rear FOX Shocks on a D/C Hilux is R7300.00.

    Update:

So I have now re-fitted the front dampers after re-valving done by the agents: The wallowing at speed over humps is completely gone. Cornering at speed is much tighter. On road perfect. There is a slight compromise in the plushness on a bad pot holed dirt road but its still fantastic.

In short, if you have an aftermarket bumper, winch, canopy rear bumper etc. I would highly reccomend the slightly firmer damping.

If your hilux is to stay standard go with the factory damping.

Either way, in my opinion Fox are the best shocks I have yet had on a 4x4.

    What was the cost?

I always wanted aftermarket suspension on my Hilux.
So I went with the LAS setup front and rear, shocks, coils and leave springs. No heavy duty.

Well, this was the worst ride I have ever had. The ride was so hard, that I actually broke my driver springs in the seat of all teh bouncing.
Running my tyres at 1.6 bar on tar out of frustrasion, I could not have a decent phone call while driving, my voice would bounce up and down as if I was busy jogging and talking at the same time.

It was rock solid. I was so miffed. After complaining to LAS, they told me well that is the way it rides

As I sit here, unless someone can change my mind, I will never go for aftermarket setup again.

R25k down the drain. I was so upset, I actually sold the bakkie after 8mnths because of this.

Driving the new 2.8 now it feels too me as if its got air suspension in he he he.

Eish not nice!i have been there before! For me a test drive with a car using the setup is important especially considering the high price.

There is more to this than just aftermarket suspension. Are you telling us the full story?

    Did you lift it?

A lift can make the ride harsher.

Did you fit aftermarket rims and tyres? Those can also affect the ride.

What brand did you fit? Not all products are equal.

When you changed your suspension, what was the outcome or issue you wanted to resolve?
