    Default Rhino Ranger Trailer GVM750

    Hi Guys,

Not sure if anybody has seen the new Ranger Rhino off-road trailer built by TMCS?

Had to pop into Roadque for some spares for my trailer build and saw 2 units parked outside. They look very well made and the basic unit starts at R35k.

The unit in below article was also there and the extra's fitted looks amazing. Requested some pricing and more info on these units as this might be the answer I was looking for.

So I collected my new trailer and Friday and have to say I am super chuffed. The build quality is top notch. The whole experience from when I ordered it to delivery as been an absolute blast.

The staff literally at the ready for any request you might have to custom build your trailer to your specifications. All in it was 36k and worth every cent. The option is there to upgrade to a braked axle version for an extra 5k but due to my licence (B) unfortunately I can't. You can add dual battery system and all the electronics your heart desires.

I had a chat to them as in my research I came across the OT Mecca Bushy trailer which is essentially one and the same. TMCS that markets and builds these units in Silverton is an arterial of Roadque where all components are sourced. The use to build for OT Mecca but since they closed moved to their own factory and producing a upgraded/improved version now called Rhino Ranger.

It tows like a dream behind my Ranger and you can barely notice it's there. Currently the height is 1.42m so there are a few tent options to consider. Mine will be off soon to Oom Henk at Ultimate Overland to sort the tent and some other goodies before our first camp in August. The tyres that comes standard is the Goodyear Wranglers with the reinforced Kevlar sidewall. There is also an option to fit bigger Wrangler Duratrac 31x10.5 Kevlar monsters should you wish. This might increase the height a bit more. They are busy working on new roof rails that are slightly larger to accommodate a table insert.

I have searched and researched for quite a while and looked at various brands and options and even looked at the second hand market for an affordable option you can rig for camping below the 750kg threshold and I have to say that I am more than satisfied with my decision and look forward to seeing more and more of these beasts on the road soon.

See some more pics. (my spare wheel still needs to be powder coated )

Congratulations! It looks awesome, like the colour.

Could you perhaps post some pics of the inside? Also, do you have a fridge slide in? Other slides?

It's exactly what I am looking for. Fingers crossed!

I will take some pics on the inside. It's quite deep. No slides fitted yet. Plan is to fit drawer/slide at the back to house 6 ammo boxes and then slide for kitchen setup and front door. Will be using 130L Bar fridge . Door is only 48cm high so apparently it fits the Snomaster 60L slimline fridge.

    Dear Gents
    Please check your trailers....
I have the Bushy built by the same people with exactly the same components except fitted with a nice tent.
The nose cone is held on by four rivets. That box is heavy with the battery and gas bottle.
Mine rattled loose on the Botsalano road. Re riveted and used four u bolts to secure it to the a frame, bolted nose cone to trailer box from the inside with four bolts.

The main trailer box is only riveted to the chassis.
The front and some of the right hand side rivets sheared off on the easternfree state escarpment dirt roads around Verkykerskop.
    Leaks water and dust.
    Water through the floor rivets.
    Dust through the doors.
I have since replaced and sealed all rivets with galvanized bolts and nylon nuts.
    Sealed all floor rivets.
Moved the gas bottle bracket from the nose cone to behind the mud guard.
Still looking to find a way of securing trailer box with out drilling chassis.
    Not too worried about dust....Yet.

You probably missed the part where I wrote upgraded/improved version of the old bushy. Sorry to hear about your unit. I would bet if you contact them with your problems the would willingly assist.

My nosecone is bolted and not revited, all gaps sealed and panels welded after fitting. The body is made from 1.6mm steel en securely fastened to chassis. I would not market this as an extreme offroad and defintely would not take it through water where it can come through the floor. As for gravel roads and dust that I still have to test but proper sealing rubber should sort that.

All in all between the different options available on the market in this price range I am more than satisfied.

    Hi Iroafriozz,

Thanks for your post. It bothered me a bit as I have just forked out a lot of cash (to me) to buy this and took your findings back to the manufacturer.

The have admitted that the previous design was not thought out well and that the issues you've experienced have surfaced before. They have a whole new team manufacturing and designing the Rhino Ranger. When the split came with OT Mecca they went and redesigned/upgraded the shortcomings.

As I mentioned the nose cone is now bolted and not riveted anymore. The Gas and Jerrycan holders have also been moved to the back behind the wheel arches. The main body is now fastened to the chassis with mono-bolts to ensure it's rugged to tackle any terrain. It's off-road ready with a new off-road coupler and decent tyres with a proper sidewall. All gaps are properly sealed and new rubbers sourced to provide a dust-free watertight seal (this I will test after our first outing). I prefer a proper trailer top tent instead of the one you can buy from them. attached see a pic of their promotional unit photographed in the links in OP.

I will also be rubberising mine on the inside so should there be any issues with the floor that should created a barrier. I will also add stonechip protection to the front and underside of the unit.

    Thanks Gents.
Everything Iíve rebuilt hasnít broken, replaced all the rivets except the ones that secure the box to the chassis. They seem ok now that the rest of the thing is much tighter. It now goes wherever it gets dragged.
Luckily I got the thing from a desceased estate for not much cash.
It is nice and light with a nice big tent.
Fridge is in the bakkie as I sometimes use a dome tent instead.Kitchen in a box on one of the sliders in the trailer.
    keeps things light and simple.
The bit of dust that gets in is not really a big deal as it was way worse.
My water sealing has also worked.
Trailer Mecca has gone bang as the shop is no more.

So the long awaited camp finally arrived. Having a 16 month old baby girl we decided to leave early on Saturday morning. Road was less busy and 1.5hrs later we pulled into Mbizi. Found our spot deserted with everybody else pitched and rested after their first night. Having only ever test pitched the tent once I had some idea of what needed to be done. The Tentco TTT can be pitched by one person if you have a rope tied to the top rail. I did not, so I needed some assistance. Now with a toddler that loves the outdoors and runs around my wife had one hand to spare and help me pitch the tent. So if you are 2 people you push the top bar with a pole provided and tie it off on the other side.

So I pushed up the top rail and asked my very short wife to hold it in place while I tie off the guy ropes on the other side. So being short with a busy toddler on the hip it took a few tries until we got there. All this while every single male camper around us sat watching these newbies try their luck. Shame on you for not helping a lady Oom with your Exclusive.

So below are a few pics, please note nothing on this setup is taught as it was a nice 32 degrees in the shade. Setup took about 1 hour until the first beer. Also got a few looks for popping a beer at 9 in the morning

Big thanks to Oom Henk from Ultimate Overland for the tent fitment and the extra L shape awnings designed and fitted.

Big thanks to Wian from Labusha for my stove box and fitment of stove and gas, worked like a dream.
