    Default Trailer nose weighing

I want to get something that I can use to weigh the nose load before I hitch. One option is the "Noseload" device. anyone using this or something else recommended?

Looks good, but how do you use it? Did you build something you hang this on and then attached the trailer or do you hang this o the towbar some how?

Use bathroom scale. After 2 trips you'll know how to pack to get correct weight.
There is no task too simple for some people to complicate !

    I use a bathroom scale

    - Hook the trailer
    - lift the jockey wheel
    - insert the scale with a small plank on it for protection
    - slowly lift the trailer with the jockey wheel jack until all load off the car ball

    You are correct.

Just putting the scale under the jocky wheel will not give you the true ball weight

The lever distance from the jockey to the coupler is quite significant and will make a measurable difference

There's an article is the latest Go Camping magazine, using a weighbridge.

    first van only...
then van wheels, while connected to the car (car not on the bridge)... difference is true ball weight.

I use two strong hooks top and bottom of scale , hook the bottom one under the coupler where the ball goes and put a bar through the top hook . I can lift it by myself if light enough or two of us lift the bar if it is heavy.

But that is different to the vertical ball weight imposed by the trailer, isn't it?

Most weighbridges round up or down to the nearest 20 kg. Quite a difference when the maximum allowed by law is 100 kg

Will not give the correct ball load but that is easy to calculate. Distance from jocky wheel to axle/ball to axle * scale reading.

You are correct, but the distance from J/Wheel to axle is no less than 80% of the distance from Ball to axle

Therefore you will be within 20% correct AND you will be over measuring...

So, if the scale is under the J/Wheel - just multiply the scale reading by 0.8 and you will be close enough to the actual.

Why not make a post with a flat base and stand it on your scale? Weigh it beforehand and subtract from the total.

A broomstick will do, with a small plank at the end to spread the load...

I checked my Bushlapa’s nose weight today with an old broomstick. All you want is that 1mm where the jockey wheel “lifts off”. I was surprised, my Bushlapa nose weight is 107kg. I need to see how i can reduce this weight since my Prado’s back tyres are sometimes running 60 degrees.
