    Am I reading correctly - posters saying rather buy the 2.0 as the 3.0 will be uprated at a stage?

    Buy the 3.0! (Otherwise you will be forever sorry and suffering from buyer remorse)

    I see adverts of R100k off on the V6, sounds tempting.
    Current: Touareg V6 TDi
    Ex: Discovery 4 V8 - Sold at 149 000 km. Awesome vehicle, but a bottomless pit.
    Ex: Fortuner D4D - Best vehicle I've owned Sold at 267 000 km.
    Ex: Hilux 2.7i - sold at 241 000 km.
    Ex: Hilux D4D - sold at 330 000 km.

    FYI (as I've had some DM's) I not selling my Triton and downgrading ;-) , this is for my brother who is trading his old Amarok (132,000km) in for a new one.

    Yup. According to the media, the 190kw Amarok will be here around November.

    I will say it again, for every day driving the 2.0 is more than sufficient. The 3.0 comes into it's own when over taking at over 120, or towing heavy loads.

    This is why he is struggling with the decision as he's happily driven the 2.0 for the last few years... so its the "high spec 'normal' car" vs "lower spec 'bigger' engine" question...

    Just take leather and xenons on the Highline, then you only missing seat warmers and auto lights from the plus.
    Auto lights switch can be purchased separately for relatively cheap.

    Xenons
    18" wheels
    Smash and grab
    Rubber bin liner
    Tow bar
    Roll bar
    Upgraded to 100,000km maintenance plan

    And still came in cheaper than a Plus with no options.

    I'm saying be careful not to buy a 165kW spec today, and in 2 months' time the guy next to you has a 190kW and a facelifted/spec changed Amarok.

    We all THINK the 190Kw will be much more.......but VW will keep pricing competitive against the Merc 350.

    but I'm never sure about this argument; that to own the latest and greatest is the best... Obviously an extra few Kw is great fun, but if the dealers have great specials now (and you get the savings because of what will soon be on the floor) then are you not better off buying a brand new vehicle right BEFORE a manufacturer upgrades it as the dealers are desperate to move stock from their floors?

    When you buy the "latest" you will always pay a premium...
