Default Method to install grease nipple into ball joints

Good day all,how does one install a grease nipple into a ball joint. Do you drill into the outer casing or do you drill right down till you hit the actual ball of the ball joint. Thanks

Rather just buy a ball joint that has the facility to grease it.
Even if you successfully drill into the outer housing without damaging the surface of the ball, there won't be any channels cut into the internal face of the bearing surface for the grease to spread evenly around the joint. There's a bit more engineering required than just drilling a hole and fitting a grease nipple.

All the ball joints I have bought don't have the grease nipple facility ie technorot, partquip

Then they weren't designed and manufactured to be greased in service. They most likely have Teflon or similar material liners and are to be changed when worn out of limits.

When kingpins, balljoints, spring shackle pins etc had grease nipples they would last for years with greasing at serice intervals, now its a throw away society which now costs us a small fortune

Hi there. It can be done. Use nipple with short thread. Drill hole in outer casing only. Remove shavings with powerfull magnet. Tap thread and install nipple.
Make sure there are no left over shavings in the hole. Pump with good quality grease. Not too much. Check the rubber when pumping grease.

It works perfect and keeps water and other stuff out as well as lubricates. Check them at every service. New good quality ball joints etc will last forever.

    Good luck
