    Default Warn 8274 value

Any idea on the value of the old WARN 8274 winch in working order ?

I got two of them as a present with steel cables - both need work.

I think the best bet is to donate them to a family member in need. *Nudge nudge, wink wink*

During the week I saw a Ranger like mine with a winch installed behind the standard bumper.
Except for the bumper still being plastic it looked really good.
Wonder what the dimensions look like behind that thing.

Have a look on gumtree? New they are about 40k I think, but you can pick them up for around 5k second hand.

They are very nice by the way, and way more industrial than the low profile ones, but they take a huge amount of frontal area and can heavily afffect your cooling.

I think they work on series land rovers and some older cruisers pretty well. Other than that they are a bit big and heavy(53kgs) for a lot of modern vehicles.

I bought a 8274 about a year ago in good working condition for R5k.I stripped it cleaned it up and added some good paint and it looks new.
A friend also bought one for R5k and fitted it the next day. Also in good condition.

They look good on an old Willys Jeep or a FJ 45 Cruiser but they are too big for a "modern" vehicle.

There are 8274 winches going for crazy prices.Just seen one on Gomboom for R25K.

    Thanks guys.

So the consensus is that it will cost me R150 000 to fix ....and fit it to the FJ40 I still need to buy

Theyre considered to be good old-fashioned solid
and reliable quality assets ... many say the best !
But note that they stand upright so need be thoughtfully
secured/ anchored and with respect to not blocking
airflow/ supply to radiator etc and need vertical space
to accommadate them , if in/ on front bumper / chassis ...

    Good news!

    Both winches are operational.
Both motors spin, both are spooling in and out, and both can be engaged / disengaged.

Does anyone have contact details of a local source for parts?

The one winch does not have a control box, and I also need some other parts. (One Winch drum end support and remotes for both)

These beasts will not fit in my Hilux bumper, so I plan to refurbish (as far s possible) and sell them on to fund other overlanding equipment / projects.

I emailed warn in the us and they were pretty helpful. I believe control instruments are the official agents, and mr winch in Durban has always been pretty helpful with parts.

I've placed the winches on the classified section, unfortunately they will not work on my Hilux. Make me a decent offer and come and fetch them.
I managed to get the one working with the solenoid box, and the second winch is also spinning, but needs a new control unit.
