The water at Kabula has risen substantialy and still rising.
The Sioma Falls is just a rapid and can be crossed with a boat.
The new bridge at Sioma... wonder wether the Chinese has build it high enough??

    Tooi

I hope your beautiful campsite / chalets and low-roofed pub on the deck over the river will be OK.

Loved your place there and hope to be back again one day.

I will never forget that wonderful river cruise up (down?!) the Zambezi with you to see the sunset over the mighty river.
(2012 trip organised by Mike Garnham)

We stayed behind for an extra day together with Andre due to not going up with the rest of the group on a side trip and you provided us with the river trip that evening.

I wonder if the "new" Chinese road has helped your establishment or not?

Anyway, given the chance, we would certainly visit again one day.

Yes Peter I remember that trip...what happened to Mark??
As you can see the river is just under our deck and the airstrip is now a waterway.

    Eish the river looks high.

I am not sure about Mark.
We met so many new folk on that trip and I forget which one he would have been - short term memory problems creeping in here ...

Have you still got the disabled (sorry - differently-enabled) chap working there)?
I remember how he told us that you had bought him a motorized wheelchair or ATV or some similar to get from his home to work and back.
He was so appreciative and really friendly.

Thanks, Piet. I hope the Chinese bridge at Sioma survives as we are coming that way in early July.

We have decided not to risk the Shangombo/Rivundu new canal and border crossing from Angola as we have not got any firm news about whether it is finished or not. With the amount of water coming out of the Angolan highlands, that new canal and boat crossing may have been washed away. Shame as it would have been an adventure and then we could have done more mapping.

The last I heard of Mike AG was that he was renovating an old historic stone cottage somewhere in UK.

I think Tony Weaver is still in touch with him.

He does not seem to be active on the forum anymore.

Mike is alive and well and renovating his ancient farmhouse - his daughter is getting married there soonish.

Here's a picture of the falls at their October 2012 level, and of the view from Pieter's deck at Kabula, which is now nearly under water:
