    Default 2003 Prado V6 what to look out for

    Hi all,

    one came across my path quite cheaply, but with only 143000 on the clock what could go wrong?

    it is from a dealer and i intend to go for 101 check as well.

    The V6 is known to be reasonably bulletproof. I'd check for full service history and a compression test for comfort.

    My V6 has had the following major niggles, on about 130k KM the Fuel Pump started failing and was replaced and I had a leaking water pump at around 150k km and my gear lever has decided to become loose and this is a known issue. I also have some dash cracking and intend to have it sorted out.

    I have heard of these common issues but mine has avoided this:
    • Head Gasket failure at around 220k KM but not always seen;
    • Starter Motor issues

    Other than that, its an amazing vehicle and really is a gem.

    I would firstly check if that is the real mileage...

    Except for maintenance on a 15 year old vehicle (I did front control arm bushes for instance), you can replace the waterpump if that hasn't been done. Starter motor is also an issue, but I would replace that if and when it starts to give trouble. Let someone have a proper look but they are not known to give trouble.
