Default Eish - broken bonnet release cable

So, I opened my bonnet to clean the engine today and the release latch went slack.....

Fortunatly, the bonnet opened before the cable broke.

Which meant I had to ...

    1) Remove both lights
    2) Remove the front grill
    3) Drill out the bonnet release mechanism
    4) Boer maak 'n plan new cable end mechanism...
    5) And then put it all together again ..

    What a pain....

Mmmm...clearly it's more sophisticated than the Defender one.

    Ag toe nou Craig!!

This is what we live for. Imagine how boring it must be for Toyota drivers who's vehicles aledgedly never break.

On Monday night I spent a couple of hours in my favourite poz, "underneath a Landy" to repair a leak on the power steering pipe.

Dit begin nou grens aan die ding deur jou ... trek! How would you open a bonnet if the cable broke before you had the bonet open?

Yes, it is true. We are secretly glad when something minor breaks - just gives us a good excuse to get the hands dirty!!!

Andre, the only way I can see would be to break the front grill. Doesn't seem like a common problem though - couldn't find any reference to it on the internet. So "wees rustig"!

    Hi

The bonnet release cable on my disco two partially stretched a while ago, renderring it inoperative, the mechanic at LRER opened the bonnet using pliers. We had to strip to the same extent, including drilling out rivets

Yip, that is the whole job ..... real pain in the @#[email protected]#$.

I was seriously considering taking out the intercooler and giving it a good clean while I was in there.
