Can-not-wait. Super excited and this thread has gone and pushed me over the top. Thanks for that.

Eish Petri !!!! That was Sep.2012 my memory does not work that well anymore.
But if i recall there were only about 6 or so sites around the waterhole in a crescent shape.
Each one had its own kitchenette with gas fridge & stove, shower & toilet.
I guess best is to contact parks board and just check if that is still the case now.
It may have been site 4, but, ja.

The best sites in my opinion are 1 and six since you will only have one neighbour and nice view of the waterhole.

    The staff are the best.

How far, or rather, how much time does it take from the tar road to the campsite?

So if you come from Jhb and you booked at Motswedi 6 what gate and how long does the sand road take. I assume you are limited to 20 km/hr or slower. So more than an hour?

Not for arrival but departure. We assumed itís going to be about 10-11 hours to Algeria. Is that fare?

One of the best places to see Aardvark. I had never seen one. Spoke to the chief ranger, about two years ago. He offered a night drive with him. Saw two aardvark within an hour: need to know where and when, and he clearly knew.

The shortest in park driving (speed limit 40) will be to use the south gate (Mokala Lodge entrance), from the Cape Town tar road to gate entrance +- 24 kms, gate to Mokala Lodge for check in, about 6 kms, Mokala Lodge to Motswedi, not 100% sure, but about 8-10 kms.

If you enter at the Lilydale gate (north gate) you will have about 20-25 in park kms, plus the 15 odd kms from the tar road....hope this helps

It was still like that last December last year. 6 sites in groups of 2 - joined at the Kitchenette/shower. Our site was either 3 .4 one of the middle 2. Even though the camp was fully booked, it wasn't at all crowded. We liked the view from whichever it was, so chose it over one of the edge sites (though they were also very nice). Not cramped at all - normally we are the type to go to the edge but didn't feel the need.

    We often visits Mokala.

In 2016 we even camp at Motswedi for four nights during June (read deep winter). Pitched our tents in full sunshine and enjoyed the mellow winter days. On the Thursday night we were the only campers in Modswedi.

What's nice about Motswedi is that you have a dedicated fire pit on the ground, apart from the traditional skottel braai. So you can make a traditional camp fire on the ground and sit around it. So take enough wood.

Oh yes and then the "4x4 trail" are free. Just book at Lilydale and get the free permit. The trail is nothing more than a tweespoor paadjie through the veld, but you may only drive it with a 4x4. Nontheless it makes you feel that you owns the park just for yourself. Feels like driving on your own game farm.

A couple of weeks back we stayed in one of the chalets at Mosu. This park is not to be missed, if you want preditors go to Kruger, but we saw more game per sq km than any of the parks we have visited over the last three years, and that includes Kruger. The birding is good, and the whole vicinity has a nice bushveld feel to it. The chalet itself was big and airy, clearly a modern build, and had everything we wanted. The waterhole with bird/game hide has to be sat in to be believed. We spent hours there and could have spent the entire day sitting watching the animals and birds come and go. Magic!

Next time - and there will be - we will plan a longer stay.
