    Default Metal Cuting Services

Do you know of someone that will be able to cut 6MM Alumenium ?

I need the below to be cut, I have the DXF available.

    Attachment 485895

I tried contacting many local services that I found using google. Unfortunately only 2 of them got back to me and after submitting the drawings, Its just promises after promises to no re-sponse.
I don't want any favors and I'm willing to pay what ever the going rate is to have this done., In future I might need to cut more but and dont want to hassle people..

I think it has to be done on a HiDef Plasma cutter or Water Jet. As far as I understand alumenium gives Lazer a hard time and 6MM is quite thick for a Lazer cutter ?

[OT] - Why is it that Lazer cant cut Alu as well as plasma and Water jet when it can cut mild steel just as well as other types of cutters ?

You could also try Eezi Laser in Koedoespoort.

I have used them ,they do good work and their lazer can cut up to 20 mm

6mm Ali is no problem for a laser.

You cannot 3D print aluminium or metal as such. There are powder printers that you can bake the printed parts and get something similar to metal, but it's not that effective yet.
Also you will pay R10 000 for the part if not more.
This is the backbone structure of the Prusa I3 printer and if this is not done properly you will have months of agony and pain and hell on earth.

The problem with a Laser in thick materials and precision cutting, as in 4mm dia holes is that the Laser cuts give a “slope” to all cuts due to Laser focus problems.

What I also noticed when I had the X-Arm cut for my Ormerod, the localised heat generated from cutting holes in close proximity caused the part to warp so badly that they had to re-cut the part in marine grade Aluminium and only etch the hole position so that I had to drill them myself.
For a part like this milling is really the best option followed only by waterjet cutting.

As has been said, laser cuts aluminium with ease and will be the cheapest by a long way compared with laser or CNC milling. Only problem is the holes you have. Having holes smaller in diametre than the thickness of the plate is always a problem. You may have to get them to scribe the hole centres and then you just drill the holes after receiving the part.

Yes, on the small holes you just etch a centre mar and then drill it afterwards. The rule is that you do not cut holes with a small diameter than plate thickness.

    Thanks for all the replies.
Maybe a stupid question. Will they be able to scribe the holes as is on the DXF file ? or do I need to indicate which parts need to be scribed ? Or will their machines have a setting to automatically do this ?

I dont actually care what is used to cut it as long as its accurate.

I have a drill press and dont have a problem drilling the holes myself.

They will basically engrave the hole with a lower power setting so just burning the position in and not full power cut.

Rather ask them to engrave (etch) a centre mark in the from of a cross. Easier to centre punch that way.
