    Default Bt-50 3.2 supercab 4x4 2017. Thoughts?

    Hey guys.

I am a Jeep driver (DONT SHOOT!) but I need a bakkie for our small business (supplying oils and greases etc). We often have urgent orders when all my delivery guys are out and I need to help out. So I need something thats good for daily customer calls, but I can stick a 210L or 2 on the back when needed.

I've been looking at new as possible 2.2 Ranger Supercab XL's but they get sold before the dealer can even wash them most of the time. Had 2 sold from right under me and another that had had a dodgy front/side repair on closer inspection.

So this 3.2 Mazda came up in a search. Apparently a Nissan dealer principles car that was used for when he went to his farm in Polokwane. Tailgate/rear 1/4 got damaged when a trailer jack-knifed into it. Repair looks good. I can't really tell what was done, and I've asked them if they can get the actual details.

Anyway, both the engine size and 4x4 are unnecessary for me, but nice to have I guess (can pull my folks caravan if I feel like it.). Any thoughts? Good idea/bad idea?

It seems to ride a bit harder than the ranger, and the motor isn't as smooth and the 2.2's I've driven. It feels less "turbo'y" and more like a big strong NA motor most of the time. Also the steering was quite heavy compared to the Ford.....

R299k. 2017 with 11k kms. Seems a bit on the "too good to be true" side? It's an SLE I believe (chrome mirrors and door handles etc, but quite plasticky inside?)

Oh yeah, it's manual. Feels a little snatchy on the clutch compared to the fords I've driven. I guess there are some differences between them even though it's the same motor and gearbox right?

Me too. It's not the face lift though...Maybe thats why?

It's coming from an actual Nissan Dealer, so not just a side of the road, used car place. So I assume they have to disclose any dodgy stuff on it? It still has it's warranty and service plan.

Well overall the 2.2's are a lot smoother that the 3.2 so nothing to worry there. Compare the price with other models on the net and see how the prices compare. Get a full history of the vehicle from another dealer to see what has been done on it and take it from there.

Hmm.. Thanks. You think another dealer could get the history just off the License plate or would I need the VIN?

VIN is the best but maybe you get lucky with the license number

    Ok. Went past mazda now.

    Prod date: 11/02/2015!!!
    date in Stock: 20/02/2015
    Delivery date: 22/07/2016
    Reg date: 02/01/2017

Thats a bit fishy. So it isn't a 2017. Its a 2015 with a long warranty and service plan.

It has also missed it's first service which shoulda been done in Jan.

If it has missed a service and then nogal the 1st one I think its goodbye guarantee. Missed services is bad for diesels in general, I would not touch it.

Yeah it's the "first" service according to when it was registered, in jan 2017....But it should really be it's 3rd yearly service now!

I guess I'll keep looking. Anyone sees a 2.2 Supercab XL for R299k let me know.

    Hi there,
I have just recently bought a 2014 Mazda BT-50, 3.2 Diesel Supercab auto from a Mazda dealer in Randburg Jhb. It had a full service history, and very low mileage.
    It was R229'000
When I arranged the insurance, my broker told me that the book value was approx. R248'000
Driving from Jhb to Durban, I discovered that the steering wheel "phone" button & volume controls was not working.
I went to Mazda in Umhlanga, only to find out that my 2014 Mazda was actually built in 2013 and only registered in 2014, and that the Mazda warranty had expired in December 2017.
Long story cut short... Mazda covered the cost to repair as I had just bought the vehicle a few weeks back.
If you have the vin number, Mazda (any branch) can tell you all the info you need to know.
R299'000 is very cheap. Too cheap to be true. But definitely worth the extra effort to find out more before buying.
I met some crazy people.... They made me their leader.

    2014 Mazda BT-50 - Recently bought. March 2018
    2013 Nissan NP300 - Daily workhorse
1993 Ford Courier 2.2... Odometer stopped working just over 530'000 km's. Sold 2013
69' Series 2 Landi - Old, slow, thirsty. Go anywhere. Stolen in 2010

So here is a suggestion from the side, how about a Corsa/Chevy utility? If it is for work and you don't need 4x4 or a full ton of carrying capacity that is all you would need. I have owned a Corsa bakkie and it ranks near the top of my list of best cars even though it was a bit stripped out feature wise. It was great to drive, cheap to maintain, useful and tough. And it would probably cost you a third or less that what you are looking to spend.
    Just a suggestion...

Why not just nip down to your closest trailer rental place an hire one for that 'occasional' delivery you have to make and tow it with your Jeep!

Yeah...at times I may need to stick a 1000L on it in an emergency, or a couple 210L drums so I just think we are gonna stuff up a Corsa/Chevy/Np200.

Were there any changes to the BT-50 between 15 and 17?
Should I not be worried about it not being serviced for 3 years? The warranty is intact apparently, and service plan to 90k or 2022. Warranty extended to 2022 or 120k I believe.
