With my new van (Ratel 4 Military Edition) coming home somewhere towards the end of July 2018, we are already starting to plan things. It will be pretty "standard" with the following changes:
    - we will not take the BL supplied cutlery and associated canvas pockets
    - additional stabilizer in from on A-frame
    - additional SS wind cover for stove
    - additional USB charger ports on triangular shelves next to front bed

The wife does have one specific requirement: a convection microwave & oven combo inside. The plan is to locate this on the right as you enter the door in die middle cupboard. Now the 32l units (Samsung) I have seen will just fit in there with a possible overlap to the outside of 10cm outwards. Two questions: will this door standing out the cupboard really make a huge difference AND should we provide for ventilation holes (and maybe a fan) to the outside for escaping heat?

And to keep this thread going, please do a show & tell of your Ratel specific mods

(PS. We can wait for the new van )

I have done the following modifications on my Ratel 6.
    • Also did not take cutlery or crockery, but rather installed a mirror in the doors pic 2. Did the same on bathroom door. Cutlery goes inside top drawer. Crockery goes inside kitchen cupboard area
    • Installed own lights in kitchen area
    • Installed shelves in both doors -pic 3
    • attached spade to rear of caravan - pic 4
    • Solar (red plug) and dual battery (blue plug) pic 5. More on this in next point.
    • DC to DC charger installed in top shelve in caravan - pic 6. This allows me to drain the dual battery in the car in order to charge the batteries in the caravan. In the event of of clouds for a day or longer (I.e. Solar not working), one can discharge the car dual battery into the caravan batteries. The idea is that the dual battery charge on game drives and one then harvests that energy when you get back to camp. I have to test this still, but in theory it should work
    • Installed shelve in front box on kitchen side (I had my gas bottles installed on the other side of the caravan) pic 7.
    • Created a space for a large ammo box next to geyser by installing aluminium angle iron to prevent ammo box from sliding onto geyser.
    • Other points
      • My triangular shelves came with canvas covers
      • Also installed mosquito nets at doors
      • Towbar rack installed for bikes: required me to do some modifications to prevent it from swaying so much.
      • 2 plugs installed at each of the side beds (Veti brings out plugs that have USB charging points built in - get from builders warehouse)
      • 2x 100Ah silicone batteries (expected lifespan 15-20 years)
      • 2.5T axle
      • 2x front stabilisers

Hi, I purchased a Baobab in April this year, I am loving it but would like to have the Bushwing extended by about 2,5m. I was at Ponto Malongane a month ago and there were two that had extensions done, makes a huge difference! I would want to use the existing sides and get a new one made up for the sides of the extension, any ideas who can do this?

Modified the water connections. Was tired of bending down to couple the water pipes and wanted an option to have the shower and other hot water supply connected at the same time.

I have the a Ratel 4 too and was thinking about the same mod, but does this allow you to keep the pipes connected while closing the door?

I was wondering if there was a more 'permanent' connection option for the pipes - maybe something more flexible to cater for the swinging door.

I shortened the pipes and you can close the door with them connected. However I like to drain the geyser so disconnect them anyway.
