Default Amarok towing a 180 ton BOEING 747

Not bad for a so so bakkie that only finds around 200 new owners a month in SA.

It's not so much the power, it's the fact that the drivetrain can do it! That is the impressive part!

No heavy things are not difficult to get moving when there is low resistance. Bakkie adverts through the years have included planes and trains and even 1400 Nissan bakkies towing big weights.

It's cute but overdone. Please ask the Amarok auto to reverse that plane up an incline.

    Then I will be impressed!

Not sure if this Thread was intended to bash the Amarok, but that's what will happen, because post #1 shows nothing special...

Absolutely. Suprised you didnt snap in half when the amarok recovered you backwards after you got stuck in that gravel pit.

Help me out here. Should those trucks not have had all their axles in contact with terra firma? I would have thought that more wheels in contact with the ground and load spread over great surface area would be best? Any thoughts from the truck guys?

Still very impressive though and you cant argue that the hilux is very tough.

This thread was not intended to bash the amarok at all...in actual fact quite the opposite.

Its easy to sit in your armchair and say that its not special that a standard bakkie like the amarok can tow 180 tonns....until I see any other manufacturer do it with the ease the amarok did it I find it special.

Dont see any other manufacturer standing in line to even attempt it......maybe then its not that easy.

Like saying that the 72 hour endurance record set by isuzu many years ago is just a publicity stunt....dont think so.

Again dont see manufacturers standing in a que trying to beat it....cos maybe its just not that easy.

I have even more faith in my amaroks drivetrain after seeing this video

That was 170 tons and it was a nissan patrol. Personally I find it impressive....but were not comparing apples with with apples unless youre suggesting a nissan patrol is in the same league as a amarok.

One very large elephant in the room though. Patrol was almost certainly using low range....auto amarok doesnt have low range making the amaroks effort quite a feat in perspective.

Put an iron block with no wheels of 180tons behind the bakkie and you will not see that bakkie anymore before the tyres burned off ....

This very morning my Wrangler with a Lexus VVTi V8 hauled 2.38 liters of beer 800 meters.
    What more do I want?

Reading this thread I have one comment: the Amarok is strong, but will it be able to pull the chips of your shoulders?

    That's good.

That means a Ranger 3.2 and Hilux 2.8 is half a man power then.
