The problem with the Touareg are they are all white.

A white Hilux is ok but a touareg must be anything but white

It's always fun driving a Jeep.
But owning it is like living with a spendthrifty model of a girlfriend.

i have read most of the posts about the gen one tregs and what to look out for, but what about the gen 2?

There are good looking 2011 v6 tdi models with sub 200k on the clock below R200 000 (my budget), but they don't give variant specifics, do they have low range, air suspension, diff lockers? do you look out for similar potential problems than the gen 1 tregs since i assume its the same motor?

or do i go with a older model, i know my way around a toolbox so if it breaks i can fix.

    any advice would be great.
The Gen 2 Touaregs are great (I purposely didn't go and drive one because I would have had difficulty not taking one after driving it, and the Gen 1 cars are a better value proposition in my opinion). I also think you will struggle to find a well looked after Gen 2 with air suspension and diff locks, decent mileage and in budget, but perhaps it isn't impossible. I am very impressed with my Gen1 so far, it is a really solid well built car, even at 206k km and 11 years everything works and there are almost no rattles, a fair percentage of new cars would struggle to keep up with the Treg in the various aspects and would cost anything from 5 to 10 times what you pay for a nice second hand one.

I think it's fair to say there arent many vehicles that can equal the joy you get from driving a propper Jeep in dunes.

If you put 500ml of injector preserver in each tank the injectors will last forever.

You can find injector preserver at the forecourt miss branded as Two Stroke Oil...
Here you go, you deservedly won it

Even better. No one will frown at oom Stoffel for paying for the Jeep with airbags.

If you go for a 2009 or 2010 previous generation Treg, I think you will get more value for money with your budget in mind. A nice V6 TDI very kitted out is a reality within that budget.

The first generation was over engineered, which shows in it's weight. On the new generation they managed to slice off 200kg, and now the latest one just launched in China, another 150kg.

I like it heavy, bit more fuel, bit less agile, but very safe and robust.

Nothing wrong with a new generation like Nys etc. just purchased, but then you need the corresponding budget to get a nice one.
2007 Touareg 3.0 V6 TDI (Facelift, Air, Rear Diff Lock, Rear Mounted Spare)
    2008 Audi A4 B8 2.0 TDI (Multitronic)
2009 KTM 990 Adventure (Weekend Fun)
    2012 Imagine Trailvan 4-Sleeper

    * consumption needs to be seen in the context that the vehicle is towing an Imagine Trailvan 30% of the time
