Default The Treg bug has bitten!

I love VW's, have owned many in my earlier days and i want one again!

Swambo and i need to upgrade from the tin box that is a Terios (great little car) but i need something bigger and safer, enter the Touareg.

i have read most of the posts about the gen one tregs and what to look out for, but what about the gen 2?

There are good looking 2011 v6 tdi models with sub 200k on the clock below R200 000 (my budget), but they don't give variant specifics, do they have low range, air suspension, diff lockers? do you look out for similar potential problems than the gen 1 tregs since i assume its the same motor?

or do i go with a older model, i know my way around a toolbox so if it breaks i can fix.

    any advice would be great.

There is zero known issues on the gen2 tregs.

Just have to find the spec that suits you.

    Low range was optional
    air suspension was optional

Look at the center console - low range and air will be obvious.

If you go for a test drive, take your favourite pen along. You will want to sign.

I've been browsing the usual classifieds and there is currently no T2 with air low range and rear diff lock for sale second hand.

a few with air suspension most with out.

There is a 2015 one with escape spec but no air suspension which is very strange.

but that said I've only need low range once in daily life to get unbogged from deep sand- other than using the low range on a off road trail.

be it a nice to have.

2006 VW Touareg 3.0 TDi air suspension aka Pumba ( sold)

Looks like that one has steel suspension and no low range yes. Low range and air suspension you need both dials.Name: IMG-20180303-WA0012.jpg

Good things tend to surface after a while.

VW had crap marketing on a super product.

It was released 2003 and still outperforms many offerings today.

Remember VW in that era spared no expense to develop a top end platform. If you go through the touareg body, chassis and engine SSP docs your jaw drops at the level of design and engineering.

No excessive oil consumption on the V6?
    No rear diff problems?

    Those Touregs are magnificent vehicles.

I've heard that the injectors are expensive to replace, but they usually last well over 120 000km
If you put 500ml of injector preserver in each tank the injectors will last forever.

You can find injector preserver at the forecourt miss branded as Two Stroke Oil...

You got that wrong. Both dad and I have injector sets approaching 400'000km. Still well within spec.

The touaregs are well known for reliability engine wise.

Built in for all touaregs are the following.....

    Oil level sensor
    Oil pressure sensor
    Oil temp sensor
    Coolant loss sensor
    Coolant temp sensor

Any of the above out of range it beeps and moans at you on the display.

If you want to stir, at least gather some facts
