Today saw a Bushbaby 40l at Checkers for R3999. Compressor unit type.

I personally have a 40l Engel now for many years.

Thanks , will check it out.

However local 4x4 hire companies here says they use Engel as they cant afford to send every now and then to a vehicle to moer and gone to replace a non working fridge!?.

What I picked up is that about all manufactures are moving away from Danfoss/Secop compressors. The old stock will be available at reduced prices keep a lookout at places like Takealot, I bought my Dometic like that. The decision is yours. National luna apparently over and above their own compressor will use better close cell isolation with a higher R value

IMHO, any fridge with a Danfoss compressor is the way to go.

After that, it's preference (size, weight, colour, plastic or metal etc).

I have a 5 year old Campmaster with Danfoss compressor and it's amazing.

If I were to buy again, I would get a split unit. Mine can be either a fridge or a freezer, but not both. So I'm either going to buy a 40L to be used as a freezer and keep this one, or I'll buy a larger split unit.

I bought a rather large ( 90L?) Snowmaster a couple years ago, as it was a good second hand deal..
probably 7 years old, but good condition.. hasn't let me down yet.. over a couple 2 weeks trips, but that's also a good 12V power feed..
Depends, I suppose, if you're after a weekend, or week long trip, in which case, I'd highly recommend a split system fridge freezer.. ( can set to dual fridge if need be).. had it for a couple years, and no regrets.. I believe good deals on this brand were available last year, off Takealot etc..

Hi. the answer is simple: National Luna. They are most reliable, even under extreme heat conditions. Sales AND service easily obtainable in Edenvale Gauteng. and it is a "proudly South African".product.

    Good luck.

    Agree.

I used a NL and a Snowmaster in December in Moz.
The Sowmaster is noisy- had to switch it off at night to be able to sleep

2 perfect after many years of bad road and use, but one still works, however the piping is shot.

Please have an open mind about this. I appreciate people giving their experiences about the fridges they have, but to insist that "mine is the best and the one and only " is really not the truth. ALL of the fridges mention will give you excellent service ( and amongst all of them you may find a dud) in this regard we are really blessed. But each one has its own attributes that will suit your personal requirements. Otherwise, it is just a useless pissing competition!

Agreed, I have 3 camping fridges, the ARB 47 is the most quiet, then my Snowmaster Dual, and the most noisy of the 3 is the NL 52 Weekender.
