I remember a large portion of that road between Jozini and Sodwana being a never ending corrugated nightmare (our jimny had its wipers turning themselves on quite a few times).

If I go again would just go down to R22 turn

Went there 2 weeks ago traveling same route you are thinking of. Plenty roadworks up to Hendrina - we came back via Bethal, Secunda, Jhb on N17 much better without issues.

That gravel road is only about 50km, I have never found it to be that bad. With slightly lower tyre pressures its a lot better and much shorter via Hluluwe. Depends on what you drive. Small car I would probably take the tar.

So I got back from sodwana this morning and thought I would report back on the road condition for anyone else.

Some roadworks between Ermelo and Hendrina.

The gravel road after Jozini is in a really bad state at the moment. I drove 50km/h most of the gravel road.

Came back via Hluhluwe and was far better than the gravel road.

Also did the N17 on the way back. Nice quite road to drive, although we did drive through the night.

Were you there for diving or fishing? I towed the boat down that dirt road. Never again.

Doing dive course with the kids next week in dhaharb, but then canít wait to get back to sodwana and do some fishing and diving.

Wasn't there for either this trip.

Buddies dad bought a boat and was busy at work so couldn't tow it down himself. Took it down there so long for storage. No place at their home. And then just enjoyed a nice and peacefull holiday. Went snorkeling once. And did some beach days. All in all I enjoyed it a lot, was my first time there.
Once the boat is organised I'm sure we'll be going down a lot more often

Yes my wife keeps trying to plan exotic trips and I tell her to just back off and let us go to soddies. We can fish, she can dive, parks board accommodation was great. What more do you need.

I am here in Sodwana now. Came through Jozini lots of road works in Jozini. Trucks on the road was crazy.

The gravel road once past the road works was an absolute pleasure.

    Through Pinda game reserve.

This morning we saw a hunting pair of cheetahs on our short cut.

    Giraffe and zebra in abundance.

No I wish, what I did realize on short trips like this nothing beats a charter.

We had rough weather on 2 of the days and one thing that made it bearable was being on a Magnum 25 with cabin.

Now I will never tow that up and Down.

Even with a truck it wont be fun.

So the thinking is get a smaller cheaper boat for rivers and estuaries and do an annual charter in Sodwana.

Lions often are on the same section.
