That was some serious fun!!! I participated in two. The first one I should have won, but the data capturer made a finger error giving me a 24 minutes penalty instead of a 24 seconds. I only found out after the Clerk of the course signed off the results.

The second one I DID win.

A very different type of challenge, but it WAS FUN! Unbelievable scenery. The guys from Nelspruit and Swazi4x4 used to put in a LOT of effort into making this the success that it was.

    Hi guys

We have been pondering if we should startup the Swazi reg Raid again.

Think we must start a poll and find out? It is going to be hardwork and long hours so we need to know how many people will be interested.

Roetes?

    Where....in Swaziland Peter.
When....haven't been held for 7? years

For many people it was set in the calendar. Once a year you take four days out, and you go drive around in some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable, while watching your speedo, route instruction and the clock It used to be THE highlight of the offroad calendar year.

The actual route used to change every year. Some times subtle changes, but enough to screw you around big time if you thought of getting a competitive advantage by using any previous GPS track

Why did it stop happening? lack of interest ?

maybe cost. has mountain biking taken its place ?

    http://www.swazifrontier.co.sz/

Either way it would be worth a revive if the interest is there.

I can assist with accommodation and a meeting venue for planning at the royal villas hotel if interest gets it to this point.

    Hi Karol

With closure of Sappi Usutu the bulk of the Swazi4x4 club was forced to leave to find work back in SA.

Myself and my partner Gert who was the route planner for many years want to start it up again. But we need to get an idee who would be interested. The investment in time and money must bmake it worth while.

Our plan was to do a "small or intro" event in September ofer the long weekend. If it works, we will do it again over easter weekend as it was every year.

We still have all the routes, and some of the old members have made themselves available to assist on the weekend.

Hope this gives you some info. This was and is still the most fun I had using my 4x4.

    Great memories.

    Hi Casto

    Thanks for the info!

I'll be watching the thread for more.

A new Swazi own company has taken over the Sappi Usutu called Montigny and it seems to be doing quite well judging by how the school there has doubled in size with kids over the past few year ( mainly expats coming to work there) at the beginning of last year they opened a high school.

So I would imagine there should be some renewed interest.

Just arrange a long weekend drive on the old routes. You will then see how many Saffers will be joining!

    Looking forward!
