Morning, we have been using the Limpopo ferry regularly over the last few weeks! It is definitely operational.

I just spoke to the cops at Pafuri - he reckons the people have been crossing the Limpopo at present.
Does anyone have any update to confirm this?

Please help. Can you do Pafuri via Moz to enter the Gonarezhou park in Zim. Any potential hazards in doing this? Rebels, police blocks, road condition?

We'll be crossing the Limpopo at Mapai Ngula on Tuesday next week, I don't know about road conditions etc but it would appear from the water affars website that there is no water flowing at the moment.

Most definitely you can - BUT depending on time of year due to water levels in the Limpopo and Nuanetsi Rivers.

No rebels that I am aware of.
Police blocks - no worse than you would find anywhere else in Southern Africa.
"Road" conditions vary from deep sand, muddy patches (time of year), two track trails, some rocky bits ......
Nothing that a normal off road vehicle or even a farm UTE would not handle easily.

The Limpopo is usually crossed by ferry if running full - but in dry season is hardly more than a small stream.
The Nuanetsi, as far as I am aware does not have a ferry. So again, depending on the season - but it should be OK just sandy - so may need 4x4 and / or diff lock to get through.

CHECK with the local border post at Pafuri or on this forum before your trip to establish current conditions.

If not towing a trailer or off road caravan it is a little easier.
Best to travel with at least one other vehicle in a group.

    Hi Peter

Many thanks. Planning a trip late July so water and river levels should be manageable I assume, although with climate change who knows weather patterns!

    Thanks for info.

Boats, we crossed the middle of Aug, this year, it was no problem at all. 2 of us were towing.

The long term plan is a crossing from RSA directly into Zim, evidently both governments have already agreed to finance customs and immigration on either side of the border. It seems the plan is a bridge but some people are hoping to get a river crossing soon, even if it can only be used for 8 months of the year.

This info was from Clive Stockil, of Chilo Gorge Lodge, who we met in Chinguli.

We were just there on Nov 1st, 2018 at the crossing that is only 3 kms from the Mozambique border post, which was mainly sand with just a little water that was knee deep when I walked through it. The Nuanetsi was totally dry.
