    Default Paternoster to Britannia Bay

    Hi,

I'm heading to Britannia Bay soon, and I see that there is a road between Paternoster and Britannia Bay that runs along the coast. Does anyone have knowledge on whether this is accessible to the general public and whether it can indeed be followed all the way through (so no gates etc)?

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

There is a road and its open to the public but if you don't have a 4x4 you will probably not get through.
There is one little section where you climb or descend the dune which is a bit tricky.
If you going from Britannia to Paternoster you will descend the dune which is not so bad but the other direction will be much more difficult.
Other than that there is some soft sand but nothing to but worried about.
There is a gate on the Britannia side but its unlocked.

Exactly what I needed, thank you.

    Did you do the route?
I would like to do the same as we always take the dirtroad just outide Paternoster to St Helena.
    Any advice?
    Thanks.

I've driven that route a couple of times, at least once in each direction. What else would you like to know?

Hi, there seems to be various paths you can take, one from the Paternoster side led me up what appeared to be someones drive way. At this point I stopped & turned back as I didn't want to be an unividted guest for Sunday lunch. Google maps however shows that the road continues through?

We also came upon the driveway, just go straight through dead slow, smile and wave

The road passes between a couple of houses. They're rental accommodation, sometimes empty, sometimes not. Drive slow, smile and wave.

I tried this morning from St Helen side, got to two gates, one locked, one open, but with a sign that states, Paternoster Private Game Reserve, NO ENTRY, so I turned around

    Default Paternoster to Britannia Bay

Tried from Paternoster side, it was indeed the lefthand gate, the one with the no entry sign

We did this short drive from Brittania to Paternoster over the weekend. Everything was just like Balljoint had said: From Brittania Bay’s side there are 2 gates. The one to the left was unlocked. It states “Private Nature Reserve. Trespassers will be prosecuted. Please close gate.” Upon contemplating our next move a Cruiser approached from inside the reserve. It was someone from the area who advised us that we may use the route, as long as we stay on the road and close the gate behind us. So that’s exactly what we did. Apart from a somewhat tricky and rutted descent somewhere halfway along the route, the terrain was very manageable. As mentioned by other users, you do pass through a backyard, but we just took it slow and got a friendly wave from the lady in her garden. Definitely a more scenic drive than the usual route! 😉
