    Default Botswana Trip Advise

Hi Fellow members. We have decided to visit Botswana this year during DEC, for 2 weeks
Friends of ours are joining us and has family farming in Padamatenga. The idea is to start our journey on 15 DEC from Port Elizabeth. The idea is to push to get there and make Padamatenga our base for 4-5 days. I've been to Khama before and think this should be our first stop, then push the next day to get to the farm.
We will be travelling with a Toyota and Echo, and a Jeep XJ.
What is absolute must visits, and what should we skip, if one can say that.....
I've been to CKGR and absolutely fell in love with Bots.
Where should we cross borders and which route do we take?

If time is important I advise this route:
    https://www.google.co.za/maps/dir/Po...5039!3e0?hl=en

Take note that the road condition North of Francistown, through Nata and up to Padamatenga is really going down. I drove via there to Vic Falls a week ago.Towing a trailer you will have to take it easy - overall average of 80km/h is very optimistic.

O, and take note - if there aint any potholes there are cops...

    Thanks Dungbeetle,
Do you agree with a halfway stop at Khama?
Or do you perhaps have an alternative?

    Agreed Woodland is OK

But - I would not attempt driving+towing all the way from PE to Bots in one day !

Search on the Botswana group - Lobatse to Kang is not on the PE to Padamatenga route though...

P.E to Khama in a day is not feasible. I used to drive Rhodes (Grahamstown) to Gabs in a day but that was over 15 hours driving, leaving at 4am and I never made it further than that before dark. Driving in Bots in the dark is very very dangerous as there is a lot of livestock on the roads. I think for safety break the trip in RSA for 1 night. Matamba Bush Campsite near Vaalwater is a good overnight option as it is 2.5 hours past JHB www.matambabushcamp.co.za You can then go through to Stockpoort (a much easier border crossing) to Panda in a day.

    Thanks for the replies.

Also think we should make the first stop in SA.
